Rewards can potentially reach the level of Heroic raiding or close to Mythic 15 dungeon range.
This means that outdoor activities are still the peasants of the game. The way it’s worded strongly suggests that actual heroic level gear will be very rare and the current crafted/world boss level of “just behind heroic” is going to continue.
I do get that there should be a reward for the organizational challenge of raiding and the skill level of Mythic+, but is it so hard to craft outdoor solo events that are at a high difficulty? Doing the mage tower would be one example of a solo activity I would be totally cool with awarding high mythic tier rewards. Why not award Mythic tier items for really tough events that a solo player can do after a lot of practice?
The potential is because you have to have keys to open the chests that contain the higher level gear. The “fine print” as you put it, is actually that you have to farm the keys in the open world before you can get any actual good gear in the Delves. That is how it will be time gated. That’s not a bad thing either, just pointing out that they aren’t saying you can open 14 chests and not get good gear.
The fine print? That they literally said out loud and didnt attempt to hide?
Yes, because by default they become easy the moment they exist outdoors. If you introduce phasing and the delving aspect, then it just becomes a personal instance.
Well, the mage tower was a lot easier than actually raiding mythic. So of course you would be cool with getting BIS rewards from easier content.
Because solo events by default are easier than mythic raiding.
Well, as long as I can buy a carry to get the gear I want, it’s all good, right?
I’d be happy with a better version of Torghast, with real rewards. For some reason, when we ask for something, we often get a “bad” version of it, so that we don’t dare ask for something like that again.
Torghast is a result of exactly what people asked for.
They wanted solo content, that was easy and had no time factor to complete. You cant really give meaningful gear rewards for that.
Originally it was more difficult and had gear rewards. People complained in mass of its difficulty. So it was nerfed in difficulty, which had a domino effect of nerfing the rewards.
The reason I’d argue it’s “not fine” is that they advertised this as a meaningful endgame progression system of it’s own.
We’ve had hints of that with Torghast and other systems before…and before beta ends ilevels are nerfed, replaced with cosmetics, etc. Blizzard always seems to pull back and chicken out before letting new ways to reach the season’s highest ilevels of gear in any means but Raiding and M+.
Unless you are arguing that the only meaningful progression in the game is BIS gear progression. The harder content will always give the better rewards. Solo content, by design, is not going to be as difficult as mythic raid content.
Yes because people complained it was too difficult. Thats literally what happened with Torghast. People complained it was too difficult, that they couldnt stop mid fight to read a book for 30 mins. So they nerfed it, and with the nerf to difficulty came the nerf to rewards.
It’ll likely supplement the existing outdoor progression vibe we have now. And, honestly, I have no complaint here.
It’ll only be an issue if there is this delve content that requires a higher ilvl than the system itself provides. If I can begin at a base level with outdoor content and facilitate my character’s growth through a progression system contained within this system that allows me to reach a fulfilling end-point, then it is perfect in my eyes.
I do not need the best rewards in the game that go beyond the thing I’m looking to do, I just want to do the things I want to do, feel a sense of progression as I do it, and have meaningful goals to reach.
On paper, what they’re pitching sounds amazing and I’ll wait to experience it before I provide any criticism. But I will say that I don’t feel this thing should overshadow anything else, it shouldn’t become a chore for the mythic raider or sweaty key pusher, it should be content for the people that want to do it.
If it develops a hardcore following and people want it to be something that’s harder with a higher tier of rewards to compensate, they’ll likely look at that down the line. I’d be cool with that sort of thing too. But the rewards should be on par with the effort involved.
I kept saying if they’d just shoved the same amount of cosmetic rewards that Islands had into Torghast, we’d have had the perfect solo activity. I’ve played this game way too long to give half a about item level that’ll be meaningless the next patch. As long as I have enough power to do what I want in game I’m happy.
This is fine. As much as I’d like to be able to get mythic level gear from it, you know it has to be balanced so anyone can do it which means it’ll be super easy. It gives you an option to get raid-ready without having to get declined from groups for ages before you’re geared.
This was an issue with Torghast though. It had a power progression requirement that it failed to provide for. If anything it should’ve supplemented the world progression system.
But Delves sound like they agree with this in retrospect.
Heroic raid tier is fine, and extremely generous for outdoor content. They’re also increasing the required M+ level to get myth gear in your vault to 18, so outdoor content can release gear up to the level of heroic raiders and M+17 dungeon runners. The only means of getting myth gear will then be actual mythic raiding or M+18 dungeons (and only from vault if you do dungeons).
That doesn’t make outdoor players peasants, lower than everybody else. It just makes mythic raiders higher than everybody else again (as it has been since its implementation)
I’m really hoping these will be like the Visions, challenging and rewarding. Not like Torghast or the MT, to me mogs, pets and mounts are not really worth something super challenging. Only did one MT for the prot pally flail and stopped doing Torghast after 7 weeks because I unsubbed until 9.1.
Between the Delves and the world vault I’m going to stay subbed at least a couple more months.
