Forums Update: Thoughts?

Thanks. I was really confused about what everyone was talking about. Everything looks the same to me.

Looks the same to me.

Are we able to get the preview to the side of our typing box again permanently? Thats what I miss.

I detest this software package so theres no making it better as far as Im concerned.

There is definitely a large population of people ready to run to the forums with an “I hate it’” locked and loaded for anything and everything. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It still looks the same to me. What did they change?

Update? What update? I don’t see anything different O.o

The forum Software is not made by Blizzard. Blizzard does not design or control the general features like menus, etc. The company that makes the forum software is called Discourse. It is an open source solution. Blizzard can select which options they want turned on though. For example they don’t have Direct Messages turned on even though the Discourse Software package offers it. Blizzard can, and has asked for custom changes - but that was for the WoW forums to preserve posting by character and we know how that turned out. Discourse treated every char-server as a new forum account. That will be changed eventually. This update was just the overall software version like when your browser or Windows updates.

Yes, the M :down_arrow: button does switch the reply menu back to the side by side preview version.

This is a great change! One a lot of players have been asking for.

Not yet, sadly. However, that is coming. From your .json
migration_status "not_started"

Yes, that is much better!

The options to insert dates, tables, etc. were already there but few people realized it or used them. I use the date thing a lot because it shows the date in the reader’s local time instead of just one time zone. The forum changes the display based on the user’s time and date settings.

Yes, just hit the M :down_arrow: icon at the top left of your post reply box.

Change for the sake of change. Probably so someone can justify a job he should’ve been fired from months ago.

When replying, it seems to default to the new (or possibly not new, I have no idea) rich text editor instead of the old Markdown editor. I only noticed because the new editor doesn’t have the preview pane on the right. Oh and there isn’t a space between the last pinned thread and the most recently replied-to thread. Those are the only differences I noticed.

I was going to say it looked weird and I couldn’t see the preview anymore, but I found out it’s a little option on the upper left!

The biggest changes I’ve seen are those on my ignore lists no longer appearing in quotes which is great, and performance seems a bit more snappy! I don’t have the knowledge about the forums to really see more than that.

And as Mirasol is saying, if you click on the M button on the upper left of the window (It’s like Mythic Lower instead of M+) it brings the preview back up again!

Forum updates to hear more people complain?

Blizzard does not make the forum software. It is made by a company called Discourse. It updates just like any other software like your browser, Windows, etc.

Jumping to that kind of conclusion that someone needs to be fired for “make work” is bizarre.

Weird, I don’t remember mentioning Blizzard.

Someone at Discourse, then.

Oh, so you think companies that update software do so just to keep busy and those staff should be fired.

Well ok then. You do you! You seem to enjoy posting just to be contrary so I guess I get where you might see others as generating work just to justify a job.

Reality - companies push updates because they are fixing bugs, adding features customers asked for, etc. You are free to head over to the Discourse website and tell them all about how you think they should be fired for updating their product. Failure to maintain and update their product would not be very customer friendly either.

The change to the forums must be mostly noticeable on mobile. I’m on a desktop and don’t see what has changed. I rarely ever peruse the forums on my phone.
