I’m having trouble deciding a main; in general, I do think I will be a healer. It’s what I play in other MMOs, and classic, so it seems logical to do the same in retail.
I thought I would check out the different class forums to get an idea about which class may be best for me.
After looking at the different class forums, one universal message appeared loud and clear:
asking the forums for opinions on which class to main is possibly the stupidest thing anyone can do. Yet…someone creates a thread nearly everyday about it.
I personally have no one to ask and I am an indecisive person so it’s either live with being frustrated to the point I want to quit or ask here, the only place I feel like I can ask.
It does not matter which healer you pick, as long as you enjoy its playstyle and keep playing with people.
People on the forums tend to regurgitate what the world first raiders are saying about classes, which is flawed for 90% of the community that will not be pushing that level of content with such a low ilvl.
In fact, most end game raiders will tell you that all the healing classes are pretty well matched, and that its best to just bring a variety of healers, rather than a specific one.
The important thing to note is that, sans the world first/top 100 CE guilds, it really matters much more that you enjoy your spec and learn it well than that you’re absolutely optimal.
It doesn’t matter if resto shaman is theoretically 3.5% better than holy paladin on x fight with the right gear and perfect play if you don’t know how to play resto shaman.
In this case “bad” and “good” are extremely relative terms. “Bad DPS” can be “not consistently obliterating DPS charts in keys upward of +15” which is relevant only to a very small sliver of the playerbase.
This is true. I have heard it said that the healers are probably the most balanced in WoW, compared to other roles, and even when they do tier lists, many stress that they are still relatively on par, even if they are ranking them.
One thing that has annoyed me, they seem to keep placing disc priest and resto druid on top; but I know that I prefer a reactive playstyle to a proactive one.
I do believe that if you find something you enjoy, you will be more motivated to excel at it and learn how to play it well. It doens’t make sense to me to just pick the meta if it’s something I won’t actually enjoy playing. I expect some like that would lead to apathy and rerolling.
Game also seems to have really changed since I left at the beginning of Legion. When I left, there wasn’t really any discussion about mythic+ (cause it just came into the game), and I don’t remember healers being compared based on the damage they do!
Druid.
itll be the best for soloing and if you want to heal Druid is pretty easy.
Druid is literallythe only class that has little to ‘suck’ about.
I want to play shaman but with the way this expansion is looking I have little choice but to Rdruid.
I’m not really a fan of HoTs or reactive healing. From what I’ve gathered, Resto sounds like you are doing a similar healing rotation over and over: plant your trees, apply your hots, rinse and repeat. Obvious exageration, it’s just to sum up the impression I’ve gathered.
I like reactive healing and triaging, so it’s made me lean towards Paladin, but all I ever hear from Paladins is doom and gloom because Glimmer is gone.
Mind you, everyone seems to be doom and gloom, even the Disc Priests are complaining in their forums while everyone on youtube champions them!
DKs don’t. Its mostly just asking for stuff back, talking about how good or bad tanking will be, asking for Frostmourne… or warriors telling us that our damage sucks for some reason?
Rdruid kinda feels like a Rshaman with some HoTs yeah.
I love both but the mobility of Rdruid and the fact that 99% of my game will be solo and I want to get around quick left me with little choice but to druid.
One advantage of Rshaman is the help/harm macros are pretty simple so you can keep everyone topped off while DPSing your heart out if thats your thing.
I tried paladin and priest. just couldnt feel the love for either.
I thought I had settled on Monk, after finding WW to be a fun DPS spec, and people say Brew is great as a tank. The ability to have all specs at my fingertips, even if I’m going to prioritize healing, is quite appealing.
Then I visited the Monk forums, and, well, it’s like they are in a suicide pact!
Although then I wanted to see if other classes were happy…the answer is no!
Why? I know it’s impossible to discover the best class, especially from the forums, but some might offer a reason x class is good and the reason might resonate with the asker.
Ohhhhhhhhhh ya, I could get behind that playstyle, that sounds fun and exactly what I’m looking for in a class.
Here’s some thoughts from someone who recently returned to retail and has mained healers since vanilla
Disc priest: very unique gameplay now, very challenging to learn but definitely not boring. You also get to do some good damage as part of your healing rotation.
Resto druids: godly in pvp as usual. At level 103 with no gear i can run in circles and heal against like 5 dps on me. I haven’t done much in pve recently, but does are always at least “fine”. Kitty weaving is a fun way to add a lot of challenge to healing.
Holy priests: cooldown dependent now, still all around solid healing. No real damage, or at least not easily BUT or was very simple for me to pick up after being away for 8 years.
All of that being said, I’m most excited to level a new druid as resto, but i am doing to main my priest. Unless holy has some changes that makes it more interesting for me, I’ll be going disc.
