Forums feel dead

Not very much activity on here lately. I go on Reddit and it’s the same thing. I go on Twitter and there’s barely any discussion about the game.

Not a good sign imo for the health of the game when people aren’t talking about it. I’m mostly talking about retail here

Name checks out.

(And I disagree that forum engagement at this point means anything in particular. Just like on Twitch, we currently show checked 140k viewers. These aren’t accurate barometers)

I think people are busy with life and chilling with the downtime until prepatch and expansion launch.

I think a lot of people are afraid to say anything on the forums. You can get suspended for breaking wind these days…

Or people keep getting themselves banned. Could be anything.

Aren’t most people leveling alts in retail right now and/or playing lich king? I think it’s quiet cause people have stuff to do now.

WotLk classic tempting even for me.

But I am busy with garden projects and painting project I want to catch up with.

it would be better for almost all parties involved if these forums died.

they all left this game or they’re all actually playing the game instead of being here

Forum engagement to me is level of engagement or interest in the game. I’m assuming a lot of people have stopped playing retail or are waiting for dragonflight. Retail is dead until prepatch

probably because most of them are centered around the same issues just dressed up differently.

Game is almost 20 years old.

How many 20 year old video games have active forums?

Are the EQ and EVE forums hopping?

I don’t know if anyone uses forum activity for a true metric for the health of the game, though.

adding on to what I said above about it being better if these forums died,

the less people playing the game that are like the people that post on these forums the better

which is what exactly?

You’d be surprised how many people play in retail without visiting the General Discussion forums in recent years or ever. It’s not a small number.

Retail being ‘dead’ until prepatch could be said of the preceeding 2-3 months leading up to an expansion except maybe Legion (Mage Tower stuff). That being said, as others have pointed out, the 50% exp bonus is going on, maybe people are out playing and not here (I’m at work technically) .

Also, missed this in your OP: You don’t see anything on Twitter? I do, and that’s not counting any youtubers/streamers (I don’t follow them on twitter) and counting I’ve blocked plenty of WoW-related twitter accounts. Your algorithm might be acting up? Dunno.

Forums are a pretty insignificant part of total player engagement with the game

That said, forums are definitely the quietest they’ve been since SL launched and DF should bring people back with fresh complaints and questions

I’m not seeing a lot of activity on Twitter at the moment. Some but not a lot
