Forums chugging

Edit:

This turned into a much more interesting discussion about changes to the forums, I appreciate all of the contributions to that subject and am changing to topic of the thread to focus on that conversation .

They might be doing some kind of update. MVP profiles are now displaying differently. URL for their activity is no longer name-realm.

Why they didn’t take the forums offline for it, no idea.

Maybe, but scheduling a forum update during retail downtime would be a bonehead move.

I guess it could be bottlenecking on blizzard APIs that are part of the update, but a caching layer would have solved that. Not that it would have added any dollar value but it would have been a cheap solution that stopped them from looking incompetent.

yea they’re hard struggling today

makes me sad because I’m bored, and the forums are too slow to be even mildly entertaining.

Well all us addicts need somewhere to go during maintenance. The forums were never designed for this kind of abuse. If I can’t troll around azeroth I will troll around forums

It feels like it just got better in the last couple of minutes. Let’s see if it lasts!

They’re chugging a bit less on my end now. Interesting.

Where were you when you found out forums were kill

And why are they doing it directly on prod? Do they not have a dev/test/stage?

It did not.

The forums have been slow like this for days already for me. Almost every time I’ve visited over the last week or so it’s been dragging.

That sounds like something on your end.

There’s been a huge slowdown for me since retail servers went down for maintenance.

Beats me. I’d have thought they’d have done something to test/keep it stable, but nah. MVP summary pages have just suddenly changed, things are slow.

Edit: I cannot type.

Nah they are probably going " you know what instead of 50 million (exagerated of course) threads complaining about the 8 hour maintenance today, how about we make it harder to get on the forums while the dev team works on getting the patch launched " " also I feel us mods deserve a good laugh at forum player’s expense"

As a long-time software lead, all I have to add is that there is one kind of person we never hire and never promote: the person who proposes a specific solution, berates others for not doing exactly what they propose, all before even attempting to look at or diagnose the actual underlying problem.

You probably also don’t hire people who aren’t applying for the position you’re hiring for :joy:

caching, auto-scaling and containerization aren’t specific solutions, they are standard practices for building resilient web services.

The forums tanking on patch day isnt filling me with much hope for an early uptime on the servers.

I know theyre not related but it is a bad omen.

I found this message at the top of first forum page what the heck does this mean now “Due to extreme load, this is temporarily being shown to everyone as a logged out user would see it.”

Anyone got an idea of this…never seen these forums so dang slow unless blizzard was being DDoS …which I doubt they are today…
