Forum user's, we got a new word: Rizz!

I considered going into linguistics, but wound up with a more generalized English track.

Now I work in publishing, dealing with far more numbers than I ever expected to lol

Etymology is always a fascinating and entertaining rabbit hole to go down.

I like “rizz” about as much as “on fleek”, which is to say – not at all.

About the only newer word I’ve taken a liking to is “yeet”. It just works.

Yeet is a marvelous word.

Well, there goes my Kool Kid rep too dang nabbit!

Yes, months ago. I work with a kid who told me a story about how … eh, forget about the story, but it’s just slang. It’ll go away just like every other stupid slang word.

No one uses it anymore, this is just an attempt by Oxford to get noticed.

Rizz isn’t new, it’s been around for many months now it hasn’t been new today.

only 14 year old boys use it.

I would have thought so, but nope.

I like that one. I had to look it up. Curiously the Webster dictionary meaning is different from the social media meaning.

then degenerate adults that haven’t matured past 14 use it then, i hate the word rizz anyone that uses just bothers me

Oh you sweet summer child

Language is built on slang.

Everything we’ve ever said was “slang” once until it saw widespread enough use to be legitimized.

Rizz aint got no rizz cause I never heard of it.

Even though, I wonder if “charisma” is the right word… Clout or respect might be closer to what it means.

I have always wondered how some slang words came to be and who used them first… Not really “slang” but words that exist but are given new slang meaning, like Toxic, and Troll.

It’s just a word which means persuasive, even though it comes from the word charismatic.

It isn’t built on slang. It’s built on necessity and then thrown into a crucible. Imagine thinking that the first words would have been slang somehow.

Also, how is it even remotely realistic to assume that slang words will stay around when we’ve literally seen many of them come and go on these forums? Remember sus? Remember toxic? Remember literally any of the other stupid things people said for a short period of time?

SUmmMER CHIlDD

Wait, were you actually being serious?

I didn’t say I assume it would stay around. But it’s equally foolish to assume it won’t.

The first words were indistinct grunts. I bet some cavemen thought the grunts their kids came up with wouldn’t stick around either.

I was, though your reaction reminds me why I had you on ignore.

That’s not where these trendy words come from on the forum. lol

It won’t stay around. Because as soon as “boomers” hey, remember that one? found out about it, it lost all value… that’s how slang works.

Those wouldn’t have been slang then, would they?

You have me on ignore because you’re a bigot and I can’t stand you. Put me back on ignore.

Did it? Several people have used it in this very thread. Seems like it’s still in circulation to me.

lol alright

The first words were probably danger food and baby.

Gosh, you got me, I guess it’s the most commonly used word ever… must be.

Less talking, more ignoring.

Are you acting stupid or is it not an act?

It’s almost charisma and I’m ready for my charisma gifts!
