Forum Updates

How come they keep making updates to the forums but haven’t yet linked all the toons on one account?

Isn’t that the technology we really need?

“they” is Discourse, not Blizzard.

According to MVPs, our much needed change will be here soon™

Was this something they said they’d do or something you want?

How will we multi-troll people or agree with ourselves?

they’ve been beta testing it for quite some time now.

(and most people who have been around here for any length of time, have been seeking this change for YEARS)

Ahh I see.

I guess just a change in nickname after all.

we’ll keep our names, but all our characters will be tied together on an account level (at least that’s my understanding of it)

The discourse upgraded the forums? What?

What drives me nuts is you know there’s some guy with 700 posts going “youre on the forums too much"

No, I just only post on one toon because I dont need wow forums cred.

Blizzard doesn’t make the software the forums run on it’s made by Discourse. Blizzard can request changes but they have to be made by Discourse.

it’s the software which is used:

I started posting on a lowbie DK in a pink dress, with pink bunny ears (before the black ones were available!) …because apparently I seemed threatening when I posted on my main.
Big scary mage is too scary for the forum.

It isn’t a feature I would care about personally. But I’m also not opposed to the forum updates.

I had figured that the updates to these forums were just updates to the software they are using to power them.

:woman_shrugging:

It’s almost as if those two things are very different from each other, with one needing a lot less work than the other.

I also shouldn’t have to point out that different teams are in charge of different things. The team that works on the forums do not work on the game.

Thats awesome

You learn something new every day.

Im taking this as a response to Snipy. Not ignoring you. Let me know if im wrong.

The funny part is it’s going to be shocking to those people who think that everyone who disagrees with them is a handful of people who swap characters. They’re gonna find out real quick that is not the case.

Are you suggesting no one sock puppets?

Did you read in anything I wrote that suggested no one sock puppets?

Come on, man. Lets not be coy.

The guinea pig data from the MVPs showed some issues with the forums on the back end that needed to be dealt with before the migration can happen. We still have one MVP with a broken forum account. This update was a general build update from Discourse, but it also addressed some back end things needed to migrate to Battlenet level forum accounts. (Note our char name will still show and we can pick the posting avatar char).

They now have a line in the .json file tracking the migration to the new format. Eventually everyone will be migrated like the MVPs are. At least this has given people a lot of time to poke at the MVP accounts and get a feel for how it works, or does not work.

Here is your Migration Status Thunda
