Forum Reply Failure

Searched, no results for “forum reply.” For several years now the forum reply function regularly fails, even with browser interference, script and ad blockers and such, off.

Is this a failure of the little text to show to whom you are replying only? Or is it failing to notify the person sometimes?

Anywho just fyi.

I have no idea what you are referering to sadly, forum reply works fine at all time for everyone else that I know of.

If you reply to the last post it won’t have the tag to show reply to X at the top right, was that it?

Probably belongs in the website bugs forum.

That’s correct, it DOES make an exception for the OP, thanks for pointing out that crucial exception.

But no, in my case it is regularly failing to mark my posts as replies to people other than the OP. No rhyme or reason I can discern, either. Happens with the same person, and then doesn’t, etc.

@Zungar Thanks, I was curious if that existed. Is there a special method to get it moved?

To move the thread to another forum:

  • Click the “pencil” icon below your initial post, like you were going to edit the text.
  • The editing UI will open but it will also have a pull-down selector showing the current sub forum it’s in. Click that and scroll down from the list of available subforums to select the “Website Bug Reports” choice.

Hit the “Save” button. Your thread should relocate itself to the selected forum.

Now, regarding the reported behavior: you may be running into an intended behavior of the forum software, Discourse.

The rule they implement is that if you are replying immediately after a post, you aren’t allowed to do a full-message quote. If you do, the system will remove the quote.

All Discourse-based fora do this, and it’s consistent and mandatory. The developers of Discourse (who are not Blizzard) have repeatedly rejected arguments to change this behavior, so I would not count on it changing.

If you want a quote to be preserved, quote selectively so that your quote is not the full message you’re replying to.

Post moved, many thanks.

For this issue I am definitely not talking about the quote function, I tend to avoid that even in the best of conditions as it is quite finicky even then. And I’m on mobile using an unpopular browser with Scripts blockers. That’s just asking for trouble.

The issue just happened again a while ago, I would link it but again, I’m on mobile. It’s a nightmare.

Actually, no need! It did it with this post. Is this post showing up as a response to you? My screen is showing that I just posted to the thread, not specifically in response to anyone.

While active, even your post did not show as a reply to me either. Nor does this one.

And im fairly certain it’s not about being the latest posters, I frequently respond to post 50/100 etc. Although my memory is unreliable.

You’re right. For whatever reason, a reply using the reply button on the post being replied to isn’t generating a back-link like it should. Another Discourse I use is doing this correctly, so the Blizzard installation seems to be bugged or misconfigured.

Good thing you moved this into the correct forum.

I’ve noticed this issue, as well. Sometimes when I’m not seeing the reply notation next to the timestamp, I will click to edit my post to ensure I did reply to a specific person rather than just using the reply button at the bottom of the post. I think the forum is still sending notifications to the person that they received a reply though, at least? I’m looking back at some notifications I received recently as replies, and am not seeing the reply notation on the post itself.
