I’m surprised no one has pointed this out. But I remember as a teen in the early 2010’s, Call of Duty was hated for being the King of Gaming and people wanted a “COD Killer” to dethrone it. There have been many speculated "COD Killers’ like Battlefield and Halo, but they were more like competitors than usurpers. Then came Fortnite, and now COD is overshadowed by that game. COD is still around and making money, but its impact has diminished with most people, particularly young people, playing Fortnite instead.
And now Fortnite is the Evil Empire of gaming. Its the next big thing people dislike, and now are asking for a “Fortnite Killer”. There will be a Fortnite Killer in a decade or so, but it seems that it is cyclical with the most popular gaming brand will be a big deal for a long time than gets replaced by something else. It happens a lot with the big name brands of entertainment. Kinda like in movies where superhero movies overtook Transformers, and Transformers were the biggest brands for movies for a time.
