Will wow shut down as well?
Gonna guess that was a financial decision.
“They couldn’t buy the in-game V Bucks currency, and challenges are only available for three hours a day in order to discourage more lengthy gaming sessions.”
Sounds like the Chinese rules were limiting potential income in the market. WoW doesn’t solely depend on store revenue so it won’t likely be as impacted by similar rules.
Play 24 hrs or 3. A sub is a sub
I seem to remember hearing that Chinese WoW players actually paid for time played instead of a standard sub like Western countries. So it most likely is turning out to be a bit of a loss for Blizzard as well.
Fortnite shutting down for China market is probably the best thing ever
Fortnite was already bad enough itself
WoW players tend to be adults and would therefore be unaffected by the CCP’s new law.
Fortnight players tend to be children.
Maybe but not for the same reasons.
Fortnite is overwhelmingly played by kids, including on smartphones which are a common gaming platform in China. The new rules on kid’s playtime limiting it to 3 hours as well as a general atmosphere of pressure against lootbox type stuff, gambling mechanics, etc in online games has apparently led epic to conclude they’re not going to make much money there and would rather pull out than continue on with the regulatory challenges and lack of customers.
WoW on the other hand is only available on PCs, is overwhelmingly played by over 21 people and so is not impacted by the 3 hour playtime limit for kids nor would it be impacted by some of the other pressure against gambling mechanic type stuff as all its store products are upfront purchases of cosmetic items. There is the issue of the wow tokens being used for player power but unless someone in power in China gets wind of lots of people spending their entire paychecks on tokens to get ahead I don’t see that being an issue and that could be removed anyways.
If WoW shuts down in China it will because it failed as a product. Because the lore was no longer compelling to Chinese players, because the mechanics were problematic, better competition, etc.
