You are literally just kicking the can down the road. They’re going to have to learn the dungeon at some point and just like there is a difference between normal and heroic and heroic and mythic 0, so too are there differences to learn when start doing it as mythic+ keys. At least the mechanical/routing difference comes with an objective upside/benefit to help ease that learning and doesn’t slap them in the face at +10 and indirectly makes their path through +8 and +9 harder because the lack of bodies willing to do it.
Fort/Tyr were at +10 in Legion.
Blizzard and the players found that it made the jump from +9 to +10 too big.
That’s why it’s now +2. Makes key levels scale more logically.
Parents need to start washing their kids mouths out with soap when they swear like that…
You want a difficulty curve, not a difficulty spike. It’s better for them to get used to the normal affixes (which won’t change routing) before doing the seasonal affix (which will change routing).
I would like to see the season affix as the +2 and up affix and perhaps have fort/tyr as the 10+ affix. Just a thought though.
Not a good idea to have big difficulty spikes at the entrance or at +10. They tried that in Legion and it went horribly.
I tend to find the +10 affix makes it easier because it has some benefit associated with the new challenge. I’m not sure anyone in a 2 really cares about routing or anything along those lines.
I could definitely argue having to kill a dreadlord for some extra stats is easier than sanguine or grievous.
Honestly, I’m hoping they scrap all of the affixes and take a leaf out of the fated raids mechanic. The, “Here’s an extra mechanic and we buff you for doing it well,” model feels SO much better than, “RANDOM B$LLSH#T GO! SURVIVE OUR CRUELITY!”
Tyrannical is really easy for doing 15’s as long as you have people that know what they’re doing. My resto shaman does 6k single target and I usually save earth ele for the boss fights. It feels pretty easy but I’m not one of those key pushers doing 20+
Killing a Dreadlord for extra stats is easier, more meaningful because it makes you feel cooler / better for clearing the challenge, and rewards you for doing the mechanic well. Kill the dreadlords, you do everything else better. You WANT to fight them even though they have tough mechanics (looking at you, hypnosis bat), whereas you DON’T want to do any of the current affixes.
You find the +10 makes it easier because you’re already used to the dungeon and other affixes. Someone starting at a +2-4 is likely not used to them. As you said, someone doing a 2 doesn’t want to care about a route but the seasonal affix always requires that consideration so putting it in a +2 would not be good.
The spike comes at 10 then when this freshie is already invested how much brain power “learning” the place/mechanics vs immediately. I see it more like learning a new language. It’s much harder for an adult to learn a new language than it is a child growing up in a bilingual home. The kid may/will mix up words phrases, but ultimately will sort it out quickly and be a fully bilingual child/teen/adult.
I know even on fresh alts I won’t touch +8 and +9 keys (arguably even +7) nor will I do +13 or +14 keys because they just suck to do. I much rather run a 15 where lots more competent people are hanging out and I much rather run a +10 with the oh so hard seasonal affix that objectively comes with a positive for a very minor difference in key scaling and minor impact on routing.
Imo have both all the time. The cycle is annoying.
Call me crazy but I do not mind most of them. I like the variety they add to the gameplay of the dungeons. I primarily heal, so grievous presents the healer with a unique challenge to keep everyone topped off.
Sanguine is about tank positioning. Raging is about dps cooldown timings, bolstering is about kill pacing, quaking and volcanic about individual dodging, etc…
They each provide their own challenge. Perhaps cycling new ones in and out would be good to keep them fresh.
I understand the arguments about tyrannical and fortified. I would be curious about just changing them to a new affix or experiment with more types as the “more permanent” affixes.
They change how you spec and what gear you might bring if the trash is harder vs the boss, as well as how big you’ll pull. I’ll swap to an AoE build / gear set and pull less packs at once on a Fortified key but will run more ST and pull more packs at once on Tyrannical. If you want to replace them, you’ll have to come up with something that changes how you play and gear every other week like these do.
Very true – I’ve never bothered to swap anything from week to week, I’m probably just too lazy.
You’re not doing key levels where it matters enough, as well as probably just not caring as much about overall performance.
Yea…probably not. Once I hit KSM every season, I’m done pushing keys.
My concern with those affixes is that it’s gonna create situations like what we had with Lower Karazhan for the upcoming seasons since they plan on doing 4 old dungeons + 4 new dungeons. They are literally the worst at balancing their game.
I like having both affixes. It changes the strategies somewhat from week to week. On a tyrannical week I could bring more trash into the boss fight where I may choose to not do that on a fortified week.
