Forsaken RPers

I also think this very important moment should have happened in the game itself and not in some side material book that only a small percentage of players will read. It’s exactly my same grievances with Varian, just one day patch update and he’s back and if you want to find out more go read this comic book.

I like this take a lot more.

I didn’t like how Lightforging can also just happen to raise the dead and is never mentioned or seen anywhere else except for this one time. Imagine if there was a small plot point during the Argus invasion with the Army of the Light Lightforging their dead to continue the fight against the Legion. Cuz then it’s like, holy crap they also raise the dead?? Not only is it cool as heck but adds a questionable grey area to their methods of fighting.

In my opinion, Varian probably became popular because most players didn’t read his comics, but just saw the cinematics.

People like to forget that Varian used to be a horrific warmongerin bigot who easily could have ben the main villain in MoP instead of Garrosh.

It actually makes people uncomfortable thinking about how easily one could have done that storywise.

Strange ain’t it, it’s just a week and I wish I could go back to the times where the statement “I want to enjoy things without being cynical about them for once.” was about the lore and not this mess.

Knowing the person with all these allegations was the one who also had the BRIGHT idea of retconning the Wrathgate, it just pairs up.

I can’t overstate how depressed I am about these things, I just want to play a fun MMORPG with playable zombies, is that too much to ask?

I’m actually playing Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare right now. It’s not an MMO but it’s fun running around as zombie John Marston and saving the day.

I cancelled my WoW sub today. I’m in ESO and Conan Exiles and am looking at New World in beta. We’ll see how that goes.

It really shouldn’t be.

See, I actually love him because that’s how he started out and we actually got to see him grow out of that to someone with more understanding. The scene with him and Saurfang was one of the few things I enjoyed immensely about WotlK.

I started out greatly disliking the character, but I enjoyed his arc. A flip of MoP where Varian was the evil one also could have lead to a lot of interesting bits, and I would have loved to see where that went.

This would be great to see, and would revitalize the old world! I’d like to see a rebuilding scenario that can actually change parts of the world for players.

The only thing i don’t want is Stromgarde villainized, being one of my favorite human nations, we have to remember Stromgarde was absolutely in the right to raze Alterac to the ground given they were allowing the old Horde to pass unscathed to Lordaeron.

The Trollbane line were THE kings who knew how to wage a war, and if they were crossed, you knew you had messed up. They’re the most hostile force to Horde next to Gilneas, and any story revival about Alliance aggression (which I’d love to see tbh) should involve them not being some vassal state to Stormwind (as the warfront seems to make them be), but a reclaimed power in the highlands.

I’d love to see another Alliance Civil war, possibly too, where Horde takes a back seat to rebuild while the various Alliance nations consolidate their power across the Eastern Kingdoms, again, using this as a way to do as you said and update not just alterac but many of the old zones, even Cata zones.

How cool would it be to turn Twilight Highlands into a dotting of human and wildhammer strongholds, to form battle lines and a frontline between say Gilneas and Alterac?

See the Thandol Span rebuilt and used for trade.

Lots could be done to revitalize the Eastern Kingdoms, and an Alliance Civil war is the perfect back drop to do it with.

I haven’t had the chance to download the Beta yet, but things are looking much more promising than I had expected based on what I’ve seen from streamers.

New World Alpha 1 was the single greatest MMO experience I have ever had (and I’ve been playing proto-versions of mmos since the 90s); I put in close to a 1000 hours into it. I skipped Alpha 2 all together in protest of the radical pvp changes, only to return in Alpha 3 and put in almost 500 hours.

While I have still been missing Alpha 1, it looks like they may have added back in a number of options to recapture the original danger and significance of gathering and combat that made Alpha 1 so enjoyable.

If that does turn out to be the case (again, I want firsthand experience before making any judgment), I will say that I have consistently felt that player feedback has been well received and practically implemented by the development team (a la weapon abilities, character customization options, crafting complexities, etc) and that communication has been quite strong (I do, however, share concerns regarding future plans for monetization).

And at the end of the day, besides the above, which stands in stark contrast to Blizz at the moment, the one major thing New World has going for it is that it feels good to play in a way very similar to WoW but without the tab targeting…which is really something in my opinion.

So far, I don’t hate New World. It’s a bit grindy, but I’m looking forward to the PvP. And I’m hoping they’ll have a server picked out for RPers, but I haven’t gone looking for that yet. I’m liking melee more than casting, but I haven’t tried healing yet. Crafting is fun. It’s been forever since I’ve wanted to craft in a game.

I think there’s at least room to have a difference of opinion. WoW’s operating morality code has definitely changed over the years and is always very selectively applied. WoW has done very poorly with multi-perspective storytelling recently, but I think it can be done compellingly if we are arguing over opinions on actions, not actions (read: war crimes) that somehow both did and did not happen.

It’s actually kind of hard to pin down when or even exactly what happened to Alterac, since it was never really a focus of any of the games. Apparently some novels written by different people written years apart (I haven’t read them) take vague but differing opinions on its fate. I think the only definitive statement that can be made is that sometime near the end of WC2, after at least the Horde was pushed back south, the forces of Stromgarde and Lordaeron invaded Alterac and deposed the old king and occupied the country before losing interest as the kingdom disintegrated into civil war.

This can plausibly paint the scene of a victor’s justice - clearly, a lot of people who didn’t have anything to do with the king’s decisions paid a whole hell of a lot and were essentially forgotten about - or perhaps even forsaken  by the Alliance. Losing interest in nation-building after initiating the collapse of a nation is fairly topical and, I think, interesting.

I don’t think anyone would have to feel like Stromgarde was villainized if some Alteracis take the opinion that the Alliance only cared about them as human shields and that they were all rather cruelly punished for the actions of a relatively small number of leaders, while those of Stromgarde feel perfectly justified kicking out some jerk king who allied with murderous aliens and whatever happens afterwards is the problem and responsibility of the people living there who were at least willing to go along with things.

Ah, we should have seen it coming. Not that it’s truly a surprise.

In regards to Forsaken, they should be among the most expansive and broad faction of ‘peoples’ given that just about anything can become undead, and from there, becoming Forsaken is simply a choice. I’ve been underwhelmed for some time to see the ways in which the faction is limited by a single direction, and back when the game itself felt not so different from a Saturday morning cartoon, I was okay with it.

Now that they’re trying to make things seem more ‘serious’, it just doesn’t fit, and it’s hard to keep any sense of consistency. And I would defend that it’s hard to keep consistency in a game that’s been going for over a decade, but please. There’s more than enough money going around to ensure people are well paid and writing within reason.

I do love your idea of a follow up war between Forsaken and the Alliance, to reclaim and retake land. And I think it might help cement them better after what’s occurred, yes. At that point, having Sylvanas break off and create a narrative for the Forsaken as a people would benefit the entire community much more. But the commentary against that is equally justified. We really haven’t seen a story like this be given a healthy balance, and I do think we are all sick of the Forsaken being compared to Scourge.

Also, the note on this being a good moment for Forsaken RPers to pull together and create communities out of the rubble? I absolutely agree with this sentiment. We can take what we like, leave the rest, and carry forward regardless of how Blizzard does us dirty in the lore.

I suppose my last note here is for the present - getting into Oribos and the Shadowlands. In a world where you largely do what you want, I suppose the goal there is just to invent something that fits your stride and carry along with it. We gotta get creative, keep holding events, and who knows, maybe someone will come up with a fun suggestion. Kidnapping, as a guild member of mine came up with!

Yeah that’s so fake lmao, it’s also cursed.

i just saw it and it’s not even trying to seem legitimate. it’s so obviously, insultingly fake im amazed anyine took it seriously.
