They could have done the same with Nordrassil, or at the very least Darkshore or even Val’sharah if they wanted to.
They could of sure, but they did not wish to for whatever reason. Amirdrassil was part of Dragonflight’s core concept since its alpha launch, that plot arc began back in Shadowlands. They see it as a better story I guess? I won’t say I really agree with them but… I still think there were much worse possible outcomes.
Really? That one cinematic says that all the Night Elf settlements in all of Northern Kalimdor are going to be abandoned? I’m skeptical.
… How does that prove anything at all?
It’s the implication that it presents.
It’s rebirth. Rebirth of the their people and culture. A new beginning. This is a good thing. They aren’t the land they live on.
Except in many ways they are. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding you have of the Kaldorei then.
I feel like taking the place of Teldrassil or even Shaldrassil would have been a better move honestly.
teldrassil would have been the least complicated from a tech perspective, I think
No it’s not. They shape the land around them. Until wow came out, they were fairly nomadic, like the Tauren and centaur.
I only say Val’sharah because it was supposed to be the Emerald Dream on Azeroth is how it’s described in the opening questline for the area when Malfurion takes you to meet Cenarius. It’s something he boasts about.
In Northern Kalimdor. They didn’t just freely roam the world, they were and ARE bound to Nordrassil by covenant and by magic.
Good thing this isn’t happening.
I do not disagree in principle, but taking a step back from that I can understand the reasons they did not.
I can understand the urge to say that as it is one of the last relic traits that tie them to their WC3 roots, but it is a bit like saying Orcs are Draenor, or Draenei are Argus. A culture is a people and their traditions, not where they are living.
Unless their culture is centered around the land. That’s like telling Natives that they can live anywhere, as long as their culture survives. It’s INCREDIBLY tone-deaf.
The traditions are rooted in the land. That’s true for Natives and Kaldorei.
Their culture is centered around Elune and nature, not the idea they have to live on Kalimdor.
AND it is centered around their stewardship of Nordrassil AND the lands of Kalimdor.
Which they are still guarding.
Technically speaking prior to the Sundering, all of Azeroth was Kalimdor. And everything was connected I believe through the Well of Eternity. Now with the Sundering, and the first Well…exploding, they were bound to the second well under Nordrassil. They’re fine as long as there are moonwells and the like.
But Blizzard is going to Blizzard.
You… you do realize they still view Kalimdor meaning ancient Kalimdor right? That’s like their name for Azeroth. To them, Kalimdor is, well, the planet.
No, they do not. Lol. Their civilization is centered in Northern Kalimdor. They have minor outposts and druidic holdings on other continents.
