Former "Lounge 'Denizen' " Checking In

Seems a bit of an over reaction to quit playing wow just because trust level 3 is being applied equally now.
Should have been this way from the start and personally im glad this change happened.
It wasnt cool to see people posting gifs on all their characters or after they were banned.

But either way, i wish you well.
Your posts are always fun and i hope you change your mind.

What I’d like to determine is: were we all taken by surprise by this or were e-mails sent to folks and some of us didn’t get ours containing an explanation. I wouldn’t know what I do if a good friend hadn’t filled me in.

I guess my point is, could a moderator have pinned something to the front of The Lounge forum for us to read? Or does it matter?

No, there was no notification that I know of. It was a long standing bug or oversight and was finally fixed - but I get how it took people by surprise.

I am not sure one team told another team what was going on… to be honest. They don’t usually post forum update notes/patches. TL3 was never meant to be permanent. It was meant to be char only and maintained by keeping active and not getting suspended.

In theory, this should have happened long ago.

Whoever was behind it, I hope a cat coughs up in their shoe.

It’s just what pushed me over the quitting line. Besides bits here and there, I’ve not had terribly much fun actually playing for a few years.

That is harsh! Wishing wet squelchy smelly socks on someone!

The real answer in my opinion, is to continue asking Blizzard to have the WoW forum structure changed so that we have our permissions bound at the Bnet account level.

  • One trust level earned by the Bnet account, not by each character individually.
  • Bnet level Ignore instead of per char-server “forum account”. No ability to hop to alts to evade Ignore or sockpuppet on that Bnet account.
  • Bnet level likes, flags. No ability to use alts to like or flag things. Just the 5 per 24 hours for every human (not char).
  • Bnet level post count and post history. No more reset if you change chars, transfer server, or name change.
  • Ability to set our char as an avatar so we can keep our names/transmog fun.
  • A free Battletag change for anyone that does not have one left so they can pick something they are comfy with and that does not break rules.

No. Trust level should have been account wide from the start. Farming forum rep, having to maintain it every week and unable to post screenshots or helpful guides from relevant characters on your account to show achievements and rankings is crap design.

Hey!

I’m going to miss you. Not just the gifs, but the screenshots, the commentary, everything. It’s been cool talking to you on the forums.

Everything should have been account wide from the start, the same way the rest of the blizzard forums work. Add in something like “As: character” to allow rate my mog or forum RP.

I’ll really miss you. I hope your departure isn’t permanent. It sucks that many are getting punished retroactively with a fix that took them six years to get around to doing, but I’d hate to have it break up the community we, and Jonas especially, built. Tell the others we’ll be back as soon as we can.

Just ditch the whole TL garbage, and make it so you have to wait 10 days and have 100 posts before you can post links and pictures.

The whole TL system is just convoluted anyways.

I’m not directing this directly at you Mirasol because you are just providing information, but I wanted to post something about this.

I don’t want to turn Jonãs’s thread here into any kind of hate-throwing towards the company, but it’s ridiculous that there was no warning to the forums that this change was going to be made. It should probably have been changed; however, the problem is that that the change was implemented without transparency or warning when it was allowed to persist for—at the very least—just shy of 4 years: I noticed that I gained the ability to post on my other characters after beta patch 9.0.1. build 35598. I know that because I posted a GIF of my Kul’Tiran druid on that druid when I realized that I could. Though that was as simple of a GIF as it gets, it was the original impetus for starting to make them.

Whether it should be the case or not, since here on the WoW forums TL3 is set up as character-only, I can’t fault them for making the change to return everyone to that. However, I absolutely will fault them for not stating ahead of time that they are making this change after nearly a decade. Not announcing the change could be purposeful, could be an internal communication issue between teams, or whatever: it’s still a failure.

I think I posted—or maybe just told someone outside of the forums, but I think posted—about 6 months ago that I would certainly quit the forums and likely the game if I did lose TL3. I mean, the longest play sessions I have in last two expansions are to record stuff for GIFs. Pharazon here still has trust-level 3, but it’d be hard enough for me to maintain that with whatever the read/post requirements are per 100 days let alone try to do that with the characters that I use to post my GIFs (it doesn’t make sense contextually to post them on Pharazon).

I’m glad they did so tbh they can be on the same playing field w everyone else in regards to how things work

Um, I get your frustration about the communcations. I really do, but the current Discourse forum software was set up in WoW in 2018. We all got a total forum wipe and had to start over on the new system :frowning:

They just don’t post forum patch updates and don’t tell us ahead of time. Never have that I remember.

Agreed - but when changed it should be changed for everyone so everyone has all the things at the Account level. It should not have been part of the folks in a special group with an error. It drives home the point some have been making - in massive long threads, about switching the WoW forums to work like the rest of the Blizz forums. Permissions, flags, post history, trust level, etc all at the Bnet level. Not char-server where even transferring resets you to zero.

We have a whole huge mega thread about it, despite the “account wide ignore” title, it is asking for account wide settings for the WoW forums. And that is just the most recent one. There have been many over the years since the 2018 change over to Discourse.

I feel like that should be a separate convo though maybe directed at changing the system.

Like an account wide TL3 makes sense if you earned TL3 on one character already and don’t have forum actions on your account.

But a select beta group being allowed to keep TL3 despite never having earned it and kept it even when actioned i saw several people say they received actions etc but never cared bcz it didn’t effect their perma TL3, that’s a weird situation and I’m glad they fixed it so that group no longer has that because it was bizarre imo that they did.

Just put Btags under our character names.

That’s been a thing for 6 years???

Instead of taking away, they should add and just allow trust level 2 to post pictures and gifs from specific websites like Giphy Imgur and tenor.

Just allow those 3. I think those 3 are the most people use.
