Will Forever wow significantly impact retail’s population?
This is an interesting question.
Let’s say, Forever has anything better than retail. Anything. And there is no way to swap you charater to/from retail to Forever and back, Lol forever. What will happen to Retail’s population?
Now to clarify, I’m not asking about, what will happen to Retail’s gaming experience, but to its population.
In Retail right now, all end game pve content is pretty much, ONLY accessible, if there are plenty of tanks and healers. And the pvp, is highly feast or famine, meaning, if the population in Retail changes even a little, it will surely be EXTREME in difference.
So, if Forever, brings anything better, for tanks, healers, or pvp players, in particular, will Retail’s population be affected?
It’s an interesting question cause, barring AI, you can’t play both at the same time.
If the population does plummet or slowly decline. It’s not because it’s the 100th type of classic they’ve released, it’s because of declining game quality or people simply don’t want to deal with the devs anymore. Nothing that included forever. Simple.
I dot not enough details of how Classic was sold to players, but to people like me, who feel their character is a personal investment, would see Classic as just a nostalgic and temporary distraction. Im not saying anyone else feels that way, but Forever seems it is being sold as a ever ongoing personal investment, like retail.
Nope, we would’ve seen a drastic and ‘lasting’ shift during 2019’s classic release if it were to be the case.
Honestly there would be dedicated players for either side and also there would be those who will shift between the two, depending on content cadence and burn out.
Neither will “kill off” the other.
Infact all this will do is increase the overall players within the Warcraft gaming ecosystem.
Forever is not classic, it has major overhauls from profession, graphics, to gear and many other things like new areas, I would not under estimate Forever.
You better tell that to all the Classic players who say otherwise.
They believe that Classic+ (WoW Forever) still has the Classic foundation at its core.
In other words, Classic players simply wanted an endless progression version of Classic WoW, similar to Modern Retail WoW and now they got it with WoW Forever.
The truth is, If a player didn’t like Classic WoW to begin with, Wow Forever isn’t bringing major fundamental changes.
It’s basically Classic with a skin overhaul and various additions/modifications to the game along with an endless progression system, the core gameplay remains the same.
With no flying, less QoL, Classic gameplay and starting over with no collections. That’s not appealing to everyone.
I don’t see how. Like I said, no other version of Classic or private servers did. One version of Classic advanced through expansions. So that was long term investment. Era will always stay the same, so that’s another investment. And private servers added content but didn’t reset people, so again, long term investment.
time will tell , but all i can say is that many people can not come to terms with how successful classic has been for Blizzard and how popular it is, they are saying this is shaping up to be a record breaking launch for the company.
I bet you many content creators have Retail WoW population websites bookmarked as soon as WF officially releases and immediately publish a video about the drastic decline of Retail WoW numbers during the WF honeymoon phase, all for a quick $ grab.
Don’t forget that many, myself included, do not find WF appealing enough to pay to test, however many, like myself will certainly be trying WF on official release, which would temporarily lower Retail player numbers.
Wait for the forums/reddit posts about it, I’m calling it.
