Trying to figure out what it is but I was playing Era on one monitor and watching a video of wow forever gameplay on the other and something feels a bit strange with the aesthetics of wow forever, any ideas what the diffs are and what is causing it?
According to the Blizzcon presentation, Forever has new lighting techniques, maybe volumetric fog, bloom, and HD models that can be toggled on (I assume you can toggle it all off). To people who are used to era, it probably looked a bit uncanny.
I started to compose a post on this yesterday. It was really disturbing and actually made my head and eyes hurt. And I donāt think it was just a āit looks different and unsettlingā issue, it just looked bad. It has a strange flatness/lack of contrast and odd overall reddish tint that was nauseating to look at. Outdoors looked unnecessarily hazy most times. Itās like if you put a photoshop filter on top of an image but not actually adjusting the contrast and tones to compensate. The actual interface elements seemed ok, but the world and characters were off. If it stays in that state, I donāt know if I could actually play it because itās just painful to look at even though Iām excited about the game as a concept. I like the way the game currently looks in retail and classic, but not forever.
Yeah I was comparing like the gear detail between my Era toon to the video I was watching and there is such crisp shard details on Era that was lacking in the forever demo I saw. Same with details around the world.
Now it is a youtube vid compared to the game but something def felt strange.
I wonder how they built forever, if itās like a re-skin of retail whereas era is running the older engine. Perhaps over the years a ton of optimizations and stuff added to the former that made it āeasierā for them to manage and add stuff also has a sideeffect of lowering the quality of what is. totally wild guess though.
