I am seeing reels and topics for “Best WoW Forever addons”
Looks like there is a weak auras clone which interests me greatly
A “questie” like addon which looks appealing
An on demand dungeon/quest loot guide that gives info on what quests/where to get to optimize your gear as you level.
Now my question is: Are these going to be legit and legal from launch? I know the weak aura thing has a past in retail and was killed.
Apologies for sounding like a sissified wienie - Account is 22 years old and I tend to play by the rules.
I would hope so.
I’d also hope there is an RP -PVP server from launch too.
They’re all fine. Most come from Retail and were made after the addon purge and use the updated API.
Thank you for the update. My one concern though was the Weak Auras. They were killed off in retail.
They can’t do anything combat related anymore so they’re fine.

I believe the addon “Dungeon Journal” does this.
All addons are fine its just cry babies having a meltdown who are trying to intentionally sabotage the game and destroy everything that made wow great.

What do you mean by combat related?
Addons used to be able to read the combat log data and make calculations based on it to do the work instead of the player.
Rotation helpers like hekili that told you what to press based on your own buffs, mob debuffs, what abilities are on cd and when abilities will be ready.
Or Boss mechanics like on Jailer when players had to jump in the holes at a set time and in set locations. The addon knew you had a bomb and would tell you what hole to jump in and when.
Or knowing when a specific debuff was on a party member telling you to dispel.
etc etc

Raid encounter functionality was never bad. Rotation was something I tinkered with back in the day, but settled on better tracking my own procs. Blizzard used to be terrible with letting us know when our prices were going off. I personally, never saw much of a reason to track the full rotation. That seems redundant.

Hekili was very popular probably because prior to Midnight some rotations had started becoming complex. The change was primarily about Weak Auras though and why Weak Auras is no longer around.
The way you or I would use it wasn’t the issue for Blizz. It was the coders the top Guilds had who would use the tool to make customized problem solvers to help with mechanics in Mythic Raiding which would then trickle down through the whole player base,
I did a custom Ony encounter on Ascension before they went off line. Similar fight as retail, but a few changes. The guild I ran with was using a set up from WA’s that let us know when Ony was going to breath fire up the center of the room and when we needed to roach out. Despite Blizzard having its highs and lows with WA, it’s been a staple in classic play. I don’t see Blizzard being about to get rid of WA in Forever.
Well it’s gone just like in Retail. The combat log data it needs to function (and to do things like your example) is now hidden. Your example is something Blizz wanted to stop.
For Raid encounters the only thing an addon can do is read from Blizzards internal Raid timers. Addons can only display what Blizz lets them see. Maybe they’ll have timers for the Breath?
Is it? I have Forever Auras on my Beta account and I leveled a paladin and had issues tracking RF and remembering to reapply it or click it on after a wipe. So yes, it’s out there. It still works. Granted I’m very basic with WA/FA, so I haven’t done a deep dive, but it covers at least the basics.
It only can access what WoW lets it access without unfettered access to the combat log. So if the cooldown manager can track it, so can weak auras or Tellmewhen.
The Questie one is garb. It does not have any of the new quests and is missing multiple other quests. I am sure after the game launches, there will be a better version of it. It will tell you you have 0/33 quests left in a zone, while you still have 10-12 low level quests to complete.
One thing I do like about it is the group quest progress in the toolbar. That is handy if you do quests in groups of people.
So long as blizzard gives addon makers the tools, they’ll make every abusive thing they can possible think of. It’s just the beta and in days there were already addons made to track Olympus players, or abuse layering, etc.
Plain and simple, all addons should be 100% removed from WoW. All of them. I love my baganator, my healer addons, details is a billion times better than their in game dps meter, etc. but the facts are facts and addons hurt WoW more than they help it.
