I am not the core demographic for this fresh as I prefer speed running Naxxramas. I have two warriors on both factions with clones geared enough to fill in if I lose DMF, I do not need a fifth warrior. I have my own summon networks and mages on both factions, “fresh” was never on my agenda.
So why am I playing fresh? Because none of my four warriors have the Undead Slaying set for Loatheb and Sapphiron polarity nor the Consecrated Sharpening Stones that especially provide a massive advantage over players that do not have them. Despite having full bis warriors on both factions, yes these items are worth a full reroll if you are in the top 1% that play era.
My current game plan is to stay out of 40 mans and just hit R14 so that it has entry level gear when I transfer it to era. Although I am hoping to avoid this if era gets Scourge Invasions with SOD P6, similar to the Might of Stormwind debacle…except Scourge Invasions on era is a change everyone wants.
The original era copy service started at $35 and was eventually lowered to $5, they want our money and I have zero doubt anniversary characters will be able to be copied to era.
The only counterargument I can see is that Anniversary characters have dual spec however I can see them just pushing dual spec to era if it gets in the way of era character copies.
Wish I could upvote this more. Playing on Fresh feels like torture with the quality of players. If scourge invasion was brought back to era id leave now.
Just because 2019 classic character copy services are not available does not mean Anniversary copies will not be available. My best guess is that this was a cost savings decision related to the maintenance of storing the 2019 classic data and keeping the service running in perpetuity.
If anything this reinforces era copies will be available because:
We now know for certain the service will eventually no longer be available, Blizzard will want to capitalize on the FOMO
People now know that Era has a longstanding community
There is no promise nor indication that anniversary realms will be allowed to transfer to Era. Anni realms are a completely different ‘seasonal’ experience, at this point with dual spec and other changes it may as well be considered classic+.
You shouldn’t expect your anni realm characters to end up anywhere other than TBC, especially if additional content/timeline/drop chance changes keep coming to fresh.
This would be a criminal act, leading to lots of unsubs and the blossoming of private servers again.
It’s doesn’t really have anything to do with whether or not it would have downsides.
By Blizzard’s own delineation, Classic-Era is intended to be a recreation of vanilla “as it was”, or as close to the original as can be managed.
I don’t have anything against dualspec at a personal level or gameplay level- it’s just about preserving the integrity of what Era was designed to be.
And yes I know there have already been massive #somechanges, which are not a justification for further changes.
You’re the one who can ‘get over it’.
If you want to play on Era, then play on Era. Otherwise enjoy your temporary seasonal modes and whatever TBC brings.
