Forced nameplate UI = bad healer experience

I started healing more on my Priest and don't enjoy the experience.

It then occured to me why; the forced Blizzard UI on player nameplates.

On my DPS, I use Tidyplates to identify enemy targets which brings up all the debuffs and is easy to see.

Whereas on my healer, due to the forced Blizzard nameplates that are god-awful, I'm no longer able to rely on them, and instead look at my team via a bunch of health bars.

This draws me away from immersion, from what is going on around me. Healing becomes a horrible experience.

Do others feel this way? Are there recommendations that might ease this?

Sidenote; I now relate to all the frustration and complaints that were put forward when they implemented this change.

I just turned them off, and have enemy nameplates up. I use grid/clique to heal so I dont need to target friendly targets by clicking on them.
I'll be honest, I had no idea people healed using friendly nameplates.
I do agree that healing off of friendly name plates is a theoretically more enjoyable experience.

In practice, I'm a little flabbergasted you ever made it work. It is very difficult to consistently select targets from the floating nameplates. Healing off of a raid ui has been par for healers literally since the dawn of time. Yeah, it is a little lame that you almost never know where your heal is actually going unless it happens to be a tank (realistically all you are doing is filling up a healthbar, you almost never notice where that rogue is or why he's getting banged on unless he's really screwing up) but that has just always been the most efficient way to play the game.
I find the nice thing for my Grid is when I am hovering over the healthbar of a someone, it highlights them where they are standing, puts a faint white circle around their feet and a little light silhouette around their toon. So I can pick them out of the crowd if I want.

But with our mythic strats, I usually can guess where everyone is standing based on their role and what dmg they are taking, so I know if they are taking more or if thats it and I can not rush to heal them. In this xpac, although there is heavy movement fights, its grouped movement and not alot of singles straying away.

It isn't for selecting :) but for drifting my eyes away from little bars and using nameplates as the means to gauge who has buffs, dispellable debuffs, and HP.

It actually works out well for PvP as well I found, even as Disc when I needed to switch between enemy and friendly targets.

I'll play around with bar positioning, and look at alternative addons. Cheers!
Buffs, dispellable debuffs, and HP can all be shown on health bars. Raid frames like Grid and VuhDo are highly customizable on how they can display that information.
I have gotten used to play without friendly nameplates on but I can see what the OP means, in the past I used tidy plates "simple" to show friendly nameplates while raiding, from what i remember it only showed health-bars from injured players in a very minimalistic and clean way that didn't cluttered the screen, it was never a substitute for raid frames and not my primary way of healing but it was amazing for ground targeted abilities like HW:Sanctify.

From what I remember some addons were abusing friendly nameplates to trivialize raid mechanics and that's why we need to use the default ones now.. would be nice if we could have some better customization options for them.
I have friendly and enemy turned on through tidy plates because I'm so used to it; I can have trouble with positioning and seeing where my raid is standing without it. You can still have friendly health bars I think the only restrictions relate to showing buffs or debuffs? (Correct me if I'm wrong). However I think it's much much better to cast at raid frames than to cast at name plates like you might for DPS. It's a lot easier to heal the targets you need to and get the information about health, incoming heals, buffs, debuffs, etc from raid frames. The only spells I ever cast at name plates realistically are leap of faith, rarely prayer of healing due to how it's aoe works, and ground based aoe effects (which isn't technically accurate but I can use name plate health bars to find good spots for things like Sanctuary, barrier, etc.).
I don't think I've had friendly nameplates visible since Vanilla.

Healing without a player-raidframe (default UI or something like Grid/Vuhdo) would be a nightmare.
Solution for you!

1.- Pick the healing spell of your choice (lets go with normal Heal).
2.- Make a macro to cast heal on each of your raid/group members
3.- Bind 1-20 keys to each macro.
4.- Memorize it
5.- Enjoy!

I thought I was the only one that would get frustrated playing as a healer in WoW. I keep trying to do the healer role, but the experience always ends up in frustration. Playing as a support feels great in Overwatch, but having to stare at raid frames is aggravating and immersion breaking to the point that I should just give up and stick with playing the other two party roles instead.

It is?

Not even close for me.

I'll be honest, I had no idea people healed using friendly nameplates.

Just to clarify; I dont use nameplates (with Tidyplate addon) to heal.

I use them to watch health, buffs, debuff because they present a clear and easy way for me to identify the overall party, while also being able to see the world.

VuhDo is for targeting / cast heals on appropriate targets.. though now I spent more time looking at them to gauge HP, buffs and debuffs that Nameplates would have otherwise done.
