More specifically, what was your favorite melee dps , ranged dps , healer, and tank spec and why? For PvE content especially
Melee DPS, Fury Warrior, my first ever main was a Fury Warrior, my boy Henry. It’s just fun, I like to swing big swords and hit thing very hard.
Ranged DPS, Beast Master Hunter. I like having pets. Also it’s just very calming and nice and I’m a pretty new player so it’s nice and easy, I like Beast Master. My Horde main is a BMH Troll.
Healer, Res Druid, It’s the only healer I’ve played, I’m not good at healing.
Tank, Vengeance Demon Hunter, same as Healer, it’s the only one I’ve played. Also very bad at it. I am no tank that is for sure.
Honestly it changes all the time. I have every class at max level, and I usually cycle through them before I find what I like to play for the patch. Then the next patch I play something else.
Right now, I am enjoying playing my Demon Hunter and Demo Lock.
Paladin Tanking has always been fun for me. They just seem to have such a fun, swiss army knife of abilities and utility. I always feel very in control when tanking on mine.
Resto Druid and Resto Shaman have been my most played healers. Leaning toward Resto Druid. The spec feels very fluid.
Hunter was by first char ever. I like BM, due to the ability to be doing lots of mechanics for the raid, while keeping up my DPS.
But truly it depends a lot on how the spec resonates with me and how much I enjoy it at the time. Things change every patch, and switching mains frequently always keeps the game interesting for me.
That said, I always have trouble getting into my mage. I always level him up and when I start to gear or play it, I lose interest quickly. I have no idea why, but Mage is my least played.
Melee is rogue
Ranged is Lock or boomy
Heals is Resto druid.
Tank was blood DK but I dont touch tanks ever again
Melee DPS - Tie between Outlaw Rogue and Windwalker Monk. Outlaw is simple and fun, the extra attack range makes it great for tons of mechanics. Windwalker has a bit of setup then just starts blasting. Always fun to blast big packs. Both are hyper mobile as well.
Ranged DPS - Frost was really fun when you could spam Frozen orbs. Simple, but fun. Fire mage is fun as well, there’s just a lot to it if you wanna play it well. Dragon’s Breath has got to be one of the most broken spells in the game. Both have great mobility and survivability which I like.
Healer - Holy Priest by far. It’s simple and easy to play. The healing style is reactive rather than proactive, so I don’t even really need to know what’s going on to make it work. Second place would be shaman, they have such amazing utility, and having an interrupt in dungeons is priceless.
Tank - Monk. It may hardly ever be the best, but it’s always good. RoP is my favorite ability in the game, and transcendence allows you to do some really cool things in M+.
Fantasy wise, its between the Hunter and Warrior. Specifically and respectively, Marksmanship and Fury. Why? Marksmanship Hunter just fills that role I like, hard hitting, sniper-like. It also allows you to have a pet if needed. Meanwhile Fury Warrior can dual wield any weapon they like, flail and with a few buttons on top of it. And if you can manage to get the right kind of gear, they’re great offspec tanks, even to this day. Just need a TON of Leech to make it happen though.
I’m getting back into having tasting every new iteration of the specs now, so I have some fresh opinions.
Melee DPS has to be WW monk. The combo mechanic makes ADHD brain very happy. Enough said.
Ranged DPS is - without contest - Shadow priest. Thematically and mechanically in love with this spec ever since I got my ducks in order. It’s a visual delight - and harassing my melee friends in large add pulls never gets old.
Healer would have been MW until I picked up Holy Pally. Absolutely digging the sword and board healer who is in the thick of it while feeling very in control of incoming damage.
Favourite tank remains to be BM Monk. I remember solo tanking several bosses back in Legion just because I could, and while Blizzard has seen fit to continuously clip their wings I still find ways to cheese my way through encounters.
I have 2-3 of every class at 60 and so far I would rank the most fun as:
Tank- Brewmaster
Healer- Discipline/Mistweaver (hard deciding between the two for me)
DPS- Frost Mage/Sub Rogue (frost DK would be here but I haven’t gotten to play one in a higher key where you get large breath up time)
Demo lock/any mage spec (I’m biased), rogue/havoc dh, prot pal/guardian, and hpal/disc priest for me
Arms Warrior. I’ve always preferred the mastery of one sword over reckless rage.
Fire Mage. Machine gun of fire.
Holy Priest. I love angel wings.
Prot Warrior. Man literally too angry to die.
lmao.
i’m not sure i can decide.
for melee dps maybe… um… i dunno really. maybe ret paladin. or assassin rogue.
for ranged dps … probably marksmanship hunter honestly.
for heals… i don’t feel i have much experience with anyone compared to my holy priest which was my main for most of my playtime.
for tank… i’ve always been nervous under pressure so i haven’ t tanked a raid ever and rarely tank group lfg. maybe brewmaster monk is fun.
Tank: Blood
Heal: RSham
Melee: Sub
Ranged: Used to be Aff before MR. Now its Shadow because its the only thing close.
Melee DPS: Havoc DH, Unholy DK, Arms Warrior
Ranged DPS: Demonology Warlock
Healer: Restoration Druid
Tank: Vengeance DH, Brewmaster Monk
Why? Because I like feeling powerful and I don’t like to juggle a bunch of nonsense. Havoc, Unholy, and Arms just feel good. Havoc is straight up built for carnage. Unholy is just an unrelenting assault of death and disease. And Arms feels like you’re a butcher and you found some meat. Just cleave it in half.
Demonology Warlock is the most epic feeling spec in the game. I think of it like an 18-wheeler. It takes a while to accelerate and get ramped up in speed, but once it finally gets momentum behind it, you’re piloting an armored battering ram and anything in your way is reduced to a fine crimson mist.
There are no healers besides restoration druids. Everyone else is faking it.
Vengeance is simply designed to be the best tank spec. Great mitigation and an ideal toolkit.
Brewmaster is less optimal for players who just want to straight up tank, but the ability to stagger and wipe your stagger is huge if utilized properly and can allow you to survive situations you wouldn’t survive on other tanks.
Not counting Gladiator Stance during Warlords; Fury Warrior.
I used to main Ret Paladin but the design they’ve had since Legion got incredibly stale for me after a while, hoping Dragonlands will change that.
This time around I’m gonna say
Demo and Survival, they totally ruined my frost mage. They are effective dps wise, and fun to play. Behind them would be my DH and Boomie by default.
Holy priest for healing, force of habit.
Melee DPS: Enhance Shaman. I have loved the idea of this spec since Vanilla and made a pact going into Legion that this was the spec I would main from then on. While it wasn’t the best going into Legion, I feel like the spec has steadily improved and I really enjoy playing it.
Ranged DPS: Frost Mage. I have a special place in my heart for this spec as it was the first thing I mained WAY back in Vanilla. Fire and Arcane just didn’t feel right, but Frost had just enough utility that I felt like I could take on mobs alone but still do well when grouping with others.
Healer: I’m not much of a healer on any spec, and Resto Shaman is fun, but I gotta give this to Discipline Priest. Aside from being the one healing spec that I feel I can do marginally well on, it also feels like there is enough DPS AND Healing there to make it a spec that you might consider playing solo when necessary.
Tank: Blood DK, hands down. Healing yourself for several minutes after your party is all dead is just funny to me, and when you beat whatever you are fighting it’s even better. Blood was and will be my first tanking choice.
in context…
Rshaman when Im healing.
BM Hunter when I just want to mow crap down and not be bothered.
Rdruid when Im farming herbs or ore in the world or exploring.
MM Hunter in group content for DPS, if and when i get around to it.
Brewmaster monk for tanking.
Ranged DPS: Affliction is my comfort spec. My main has been specced Affliction forever.
Melee: Fury just feels satisfying to play, but I also love Survival.
Healer: Restoration Shaman with Mistweaver very close behind.
Tank: I don’t tank a lot, but I am partial to Vengeance DH and am most comfortable tanking things for the first time with this spec.
Havoc DH, BM Hunter, Rsham, and Blood DK. (I like easy stuff. Lol)
Windwalker is by far the most fun spec to play, hands down. I can’t bring myself to make a Monk my main ever after being a Mage for like 12 years, but in another life I would.
