First, my ‘end game’. I just want to pvp. I know the BG system will take time, heck we dont even get rewards until Phase 2, however PvP is what I am coming back to do. Once BG’s are out, I will essentially live in them while online.
That said in my ongoing ‘research’ into Vanilla, I’ve gotten down to 2 main issues.
I love the ganking/stealth/combo aspect of Rogues.
As we are leveling, its often a shortage of Tanks/Healers that prevents a run from taking place.
So…I have not played a Druid, but is Feral a workable substitution for my stealth kill/ganking desires, while allowing for Tanking/Healing as needed in 5/10 player dungeons?
Dont get me wrong, I’ll Raid if I have some time and opportunity but its a secondary concern from either killing people, or running flags/healing in BGs.
TLDR: If I enjoy Rogue, is it worth it to level as a Druid for Tank/Heal duty in pre-raid content?
feral isnt nearly as great of a stealth class as rogues are, from a pvp stand point you’re less of a damage dealer and much more of a supporting role. ie pocket heals
There is one huge downside to Druid, you will always look the same. So be ready to stare at the same animal forms for 1000’s of hours. Hope you can handle that, because I can’t.
Played a rogue in vanilla and gotta say if you really need to make a choice up front :go rogue. I get the thought of wanting to add value to the group and all, but just make sure to get in a guild and make friends along the leveling process. Be that guy who opens lock boxes for people and dps well in dungeons. Your value to both raid and pvp is much higher and you will just enjoy the control your character has over a lot of the game.
If you’re just hoping to fight entirely in cat… no, it will be dreadful. However, if you can master rapidly switching between forms to take advantage of every tool you have, then yes, druid can gank quite well.
It is usually always worth it to have a tank alt or main.
Things will be a bit more difficult for druid when playing as cat then it usually is for rogues as druids get a crappy cat ability called claw I think. But yeah being able to heal and tank pre raid content should be worth it, with layering more people to play with so more dps mains wanting to do instances.
You could level both, like druid first then get enchants for your rogue to level them faster.
I have seen ferals kill people in classic in world pvp and so on some of them are pretty good seen them ambushing players in major cities where the battleground warmasters were. You should be able to gang up on people easiler on feral with other stealthies and stealth kill some.
It won’t be as good as ferals got when bc came out as I tried both in classic and tbc but you should be able to use their ambush to almost kill some clothies if you got good gear or bleed players with pounce and rake rip and run off.
Playing as feral you probably will have to go bear and travel for situations or so.
Yeah no need to be all feral, all the time, and only cat. I know there is utility in humanoid/bear forms to be maximized. Mostly I just want to be able to get some stealth openers, as its…hilarious to me.
If you just want to PvP, you should play a rogue. A druid plays quite differently than a rogue, even if you put all your talent points in talents that boost cat form and stay in it as much as reasonably possible.
I’m not at all clear why you’re even asking about dungeons if you only care about PvP.
“IF” we go back, as a druid you are not going to have a good time…
Warriors are going to run you out of manna, they say you make a great FC, well as a warrior I just need to spam hamstring on you, and you shape change (cost mana) I do it again and again and again and…you die.
As a Rogue you get to chose the moment and reset, BUT No cloak of skill Sooooo any DoT, well then … I am died…
