For those who have been homeless

How did you get back on your feet?

Currently living in the back of my car. Provides some shelter against the environment. Got turned down immediately after handing in an application (shattered my puny soul).

What steps would you reccomend or advise, if you have been in this situation?

US’s economy is 26+ Trillion Dollars
China’s Economy is 17+ Trillion Dollars
Rest of the world are pretty much peasants comparatively.

But US’s population is 1/5 that of China.
SO HOW IN THE HEL LARE THERE HOMELESS AND EMPLOYMENT ISSUE IS US??
Sounds like the entire system is rigged

If you can, get a small heater for your car. They have USB chargeable ones that will last you all night with one charge. Immediately apply for any aid programs you can, like food stamps or emergency housing. Your local library will have a lot of resources.

A gym membership will give you a place to shower and park, if there isn’t a YMCA near you. Prioritize eating simply- beans and rice make a complete protein and are cheap and plentiful.

Don’t get discouraged. That’s going to be one of the hardest things to handle, is how it makes you feel. Everyone has tough times in your life, some more than others. You can do this.

it’s a consequence of having free will. you might end up wanting something that’s not good for you.

@OP: depending on where you live, some churches run organizations that can offer temporary shelter.

Have been looking online to see who is hiring. So far, a few places are hiring. Turning in & talking to managers after filling out paper applications seems the fastest route…

Honestly, I think I need to stop writing anything after High School Diploma, seriously believe it is hurting my chances.
Just makes me look over-qaulified. Maybe, I’m just not well enough in communication? Turns others away when communication is poor?

Slow replies - on a tablet, sorry.

Where do you live? I noticed that most homeless folks live in areas that are very expensive to live. Like California for example. So even if you get a job there if you have debt, poor credit and zero money saved up. It’s like extremely hard to make it.

Smaller towns in states that have more resources (like Minnesota) for example have more welfare, stimulus programs for people and cheaper rent.

For now, take whatever you can get. McDonald’s around me is hiring $15 an hour with sign on bonus.

It’s Christmas season so retail and food service and grocery always need people.

Find shelters, ask churches for ideas to stay, ask the library, as well. Get your food stamps and see what other programs you qualify for.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but remember: we’ve all been through hard times in our lives, so don’t let this get you down too much. You got this. We’re here for you.

manufacturing is hiring everywhere.

There was no “Jesus” his name was Yeshua in Hebrew… also the letter J wasn’t invented until 1524…

One could argue there never was a Jesus, such as the fact there were never any writings from contemporaries, only people who would have lived after the fact. But that isn’t the point of political sarcasm.

I was homeless off and on for the past 13ish years. How I did it was through the help of friends, and wanting to actually get my life together. If you have a friend you can stay with for a bit so that you have an address, that would be the ideal. It makes getting work infinitely easier.

Let’s please stay on topic, folks. OP needs help and advice, not memes and jokes.

Definitely gets frigid in here. Had to purchase a cheap blanket, thermal pants, & socks. Keeps me much warmer now.

Did not know that. Very much appreciated, will look into the resources the library can provide.

Thanks for this gem of a tip!

This is okay with me. Saw some large bread too at local store for $1.

Very true. Terrible mechanism that leaves me punching myself in the head (solves nothing…yet I still do it…).

Since historical events were often stolen by conquerors it’s true that many of the people from ancient history and their feats could all be fabricated.

But Yeshua speaks to me through a floor vent and tells me things…

I worked on barges when I was in my early 20’s.

You work 12 hour days for 28 days, then get 28 days off, but (at least you could then, maybe still now) you can choose to just stay on the boat working instead of going home. There was several stories of homeless dudes who completely turned their lives around riding a boat for a year or two, pocketing all their earnings (since you spend no money working on boats), and going back into the world with their money problems solved.

The military, oil fields, pipelines, or potentially cruise ships would afford you roughly the same options. They’re all physically demanding jobs though, as fair warning.

I hope you land on your feet. Best of luck.

Truck stops also have free showers if you fill up with gas there.

There are a lot of things is dislike about the distribution of wealth in the world, but on this one its definitely not the whole picture. Take a job where you work directly with the homeless and you’ll know the answer to your question in about a week. Unfortunately, like the matrix, its not something you’ll believe until you see it for yourself.

If you are in the US, reach out to your state government facilities too for help and resources.
