For those who hate BfA

BC and legion. Lore and legendaries were good. WQ made reps better. WoD was ok but I was just getting back into the game. I never played wrath, cata or mop. I still hate wrath though.

Liked every expansion pre crz, and scaling. The story telling in this game died when Arthas died. Legion did ok continuing with the Illidan story, but still nothing compared to the Arthas lich king story imo.

I hate BYOB because with out fail someone decides that they can help themselves so my high end beers because they brought some Pabst.

I liked wrath because there was a clear progression line and I constantly had goals whether it be I get expertise capped or completed a 2pc set. Back then we had server communities and you had to go make a name for yourself and be social.

If you were a dirt bag then everyone knew it and you deserved to be called out for it. I wasn’t hardcore and I wasn’t super casual but my goals were to see end game content to see if I had the skill to cooperate with 9 or 24 other people to get the job done and that was rewarding. I’m well aware lfg started in wrath but I used that as a leveling tool and a learning tool for my class at the time. I simply couldn’t gamble my time hoping those jokers would let me tank and learn how to but I did it anyway because I had the option to.

When it comes to end game to me personally there is arena pvp and raids. Both of these activities should require you to join some friends or a guild to accomplish something. It makes the game feel alive. Nowadays I don’t even need to talk to anyone if I want to do end game activities. I also realize I’m running around in circles with my reply but gear wise I also believe that should be earned through end game content. Mythic+ should have rewards but it shouldn’t over shadow raids or high arena pvp. I will never be in the top guilds or top pvp ladders but I can accept someone having out right better gear than me for being better at the end game content. I’m not a fan of titan forging, war forging ect. It makes things too random and I also don’t like that someone can spent 2 hours a day doing warfronts/world quests and have better gear than someone doing normal raids.

Lastly this whole no flying thing is pushing me out the door. I played in tbc/wrath/cata and came back to bfa about 2 months ago and I’m really not liking how flying is being handled period.

Might be unpopular here, but Cata was what got me hooked again. Re-vamping all the old quest zones? On top of adding all the new quest zones? I was down. When I resubbed, I didn’t even jump on my main. I made a new toon and leveled it before even touching Cata content. Do you know how pumped I was when I was questing through a zone and out of nowhere Deathwing flies through and nukes half the zone? That was the last expansion that I felt we got a lot of content for our buck. Ever since then we’ve gotten half made expansions.

How can you hate wrath but never played in wrath?

Vanilla was favorite server community made it awesome. Wrath 2nd lore was awesome.

I hate mop because pandas are an abomination that should have never made it to the game. One stupid merc in the rts justified a whole xpac?

BC is the only good xpac because it didnt have DKs ruining the game

BC for me, I loved wrath and MoP but the original heroic dungeons in BC, and the raids were simply amazing from a game play standpoint (Kara remains one of my favorite raids ever, and that was just the starter pack raid), Wrath had a better story (and the raids were a blast, while chain pulling whole dungeons was also fun)

I still hate WoD, story was meh, they broke alot of classes and designs, supposedly to make them more accessible, when they were fine as they were making it feel more like trying to put someone’s mark on the game… Much of the questing content was blah, dungeons didn’t feel all that interesting with a few exceptions, and raids were ehhhh

I don’t hate BfA but I hated WoD. There were no dailies until Tannan Jungle came along and no reason to leave your garrison. I don’t like time travel plots either.

More then fair for me… it is definitely a case of the game changing rather then me. Still no one knows what the future holds and it can always turn out in unexpected ways.

Story wise: WOTLK
Gameplay wise: WOTLK (heals actually felt useful)

Class wise: MOP Metamorphosis Warlock. i mean a Caster Tank? What wasnt awesome about that?

Ooh, great question! I did not play WOD, MOP, or Cata. When I left the game in Wrath it was because my life was changing, and I didn’t have room for MMOs. I never thought I’d play again.

Then, a friend who’d never left started raving about legion. He knew I’d gotten my start as an author writing WoW fan fiction, and that much of it centered around the legion, and Sargeras. He knew I felt like I’d never seen an end to the story, and told me this was my chance.

I reluctantly came back to wow in September of 2016. I played the crap out of legion. I leveled every class but rogue and priest. I binged the mage tower. I raided. I learned to tank. I pvped a LOT.

The artifacts were amazing, and made the game replayable. I spent hours scanning various routes trying to decide where to spend my artifact power. I loved Suramar, and the quest surrounding it. I enjoyed the constantly building anticipation as we awaited Nighthold, and then Sargeras.

I cared about the story. I always felt like my class had a way to advance or improve, and all of them were fun to play in some way. I always had something to do and see. I loved it.

There were things I missed from Wrath and BC of course. I don’t like the simplified talent trees. I don’t like that secondary stats are simplified. I don’t like that many former classes are so different, and in some cases not viable. But all that was minor as long as I had a good story, and a fun class to play it with.

The reason I dislike BfA (and am only subbed because of the 6 month boat) is that the story pales in comparison to Legion (in my opinion). It doesn’t make sense, and without the logical consistency I simply can’t engage. I don’t want to rehash all the story problems. You can find dozens of threads here talking endlessly about it.

What it boils down to, though, is that my character has no motivation to fight the alliance. The story is contrived, and is a very, very obvious smokescreen for the old gods. We tear ourselves apart, learn we’ve been manipulated, and then either come together or banish factions all together and become one faction going forward.

Your post says that we can’t judge the story yet, because we haven’t seen the ending. Dude, I’m an author. If I pulled this crap no one would buy my novels, and I would have to go back to software. If you’re using a 3 act structure all three acts need to support each other, and that means you can’t have a bad first act and claim it will improve once you understand the ending.

This is made infinitely worse by my main getting gutted to the point where it isn’t playable. I’ve mained druid since vanilla. Resto isn’t fun right now. Guardian isn’t fun right now. Boomkin is okay, but I always preferred tanking. I hate the GCD changes, and have wiped twice in recent memory because I made a muscle memory based mistake.

I can say I hate it. I can say why. The story of BfA isn’t good. The story of Legion was. I loved it. I loved the ending. I loved getting some closure. I have no idea why the alliance is even attacking Zandalar. Why is Org not a smoking crater again? What’s their defense against a flying city destroying spaceship or a magical flying pirate ship? Nuke them from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

There are gaping plot holes all over the place, and I shouldn’t need theory crafters and apologists to understand the story. I certainly didn’t need them in Legion, Wrath, BC, or vanilla.

Damn. Did you hurt yourself? Seems like reaching so far would do some permanent damage.

BFA is garbage.

If something wasn’t right from the get go and I feel the story crapped all over what our characters did in the previous expansion, I have every right to say “I hate this.” No amount of changes or fixes will take the bitter taste from my mouth.

Now, as far as my favorite expansion goes. I’ve enjoyed them all, but MoP is probably my favorite. Beautiful zones. The Pandaren and their culture. How welcoming they were. Doing the monk class hall quests during Legion reminded me how much I enjoyed it and also gave me a very good view of who we were fighting for in this massive war.

Wrath of the Lich King will always be Blizzard’s crowning glory as far as I am concerned. There was so much to do at every turn, the dungeons were really fun and even tho I only stepped into a small bit of raiding (mostly filling-in stuff) I was mesmerized by the sheer quality of work that went in to every single facet of the game.

The classes seemed to be at their best, until the final patch before Cata came and everyone got the nerf-bat (my Ret Pally is still looking at you, Blizz). Winterspring was awesomely fun!

I could tell that a ton of love an devotion went in to the making of Wrath. When the Cataclysm launched, it was as if an entirely different set of people made it. I bowed out of Cata, it was awful.

Wrath, well Wrath was just plain beautifully done.

Personally I enjoyed legion the most outside of being the big hero instead of the lowly adventurer. WoD had its flaws but the content was good well what was there. Cata was ok I played half the expac but was burnt out. Wrath was fun but is incredibly over rated, bunch of glorified world bosses, filler, and 2 decent raids. tbc I never hit cap so no comment.

Arthas and anytime I’m playing wrath content it feels terrible. Also it apparently started to ruin the game.

Wrath was the best time ever. WoD was the worst, Cata comes in 2nd for worst, but BFA is trying really hard to get close to WoD status of bad.

i see people say things have gotten better in BfA, i dont see it, sure we got a better idea of how to get stuff from Islands and a vendor, but then they nerfed the hell out of the currency. Azerite Armor still sucks, HoA still sucks, the mission table is even worse than it was in Legion. At least in Legion you could easily equip followers, have them fight with you and give you a buff for gold and resources…

No, BfA is still bad, nothing has improved greatly, or even at all really. today i logged in for the first time in almost a month, and all i did was check the mission table in my garrison for a rep medallion and finally try to finish off the terrible shipyard.

my birthday present this year is my sub expiring on my birthday, March 1.

It’s a close one between BC and Wrath for me, but Wrath. I loved raiding in BC, but Wrath had better PVP imo, apart from the madness at the beginning with DKs it ended up being a great expansion for PVP.

Classes felt good to play, arenas weren’t a snoozefest like they were in BC (apart from the occasional 45+ minute match), and I actually enjoyed doing Wintergrasp and the bosses in the vault.

Raiding was pretty good too, I just liked BC more in that respect.
