Firstly, I thank Cicey wholeheartedly for providing this opportunity.
I agree fully with Ponkster and Beregond’s comment.
I play heal and dps in Ashran. Regardless of which I pick, I learned that utilising the environment and elements gives you great advantages, especially for a caster.
I love the fact that strategy takes center-stage in Ashran, yet this factor is so cleverly hidden that very few had noticed. Brute force your way to the boss is what you see most people do nowadays, but it is usually the toughest/longest methods. Ashran is all about out smart the opponent. This is true in the original Ashran (when its a region you can go into and leave at will without queueing, and the conflict is never-ending), and especially so now as a BG.
Ashran is a test of wills. In traditional/classic Ashran, I love the strong bond formed between members after HOURS of continuous struggles - there is no infighting, everyone shares the pains and joys, and one single goal - beat the opponent! People learn to appreciate the importance of Teamwork and each other’s role, DPS, Tank, Heal, and especially, the Lead (who has the toughest job and is mostly under-appreciated).
You also learn to respect the opponent - there are many horde players whom I still remember and regard highly, and looking forward to meet them again
Even in BG Ashran, you can still see a hint of all the above.
Problem with BG Ashran is that: it is too short and is not persistent. Most player expecting its just another Epic BG without aware of the complex nature of the game, and not enough time for field training. The only obvious path for them is the hardest method - and without a Lead, Luck then determine the chance of winning. It is not surprising for bad rep to build up quickly.
My suggestion for Blizzard would be to increase the rewards for winning the game, as well as achieving various contents in Ashran (eg bring back Events, Portals, etc) so people would have the motivation to persist through the pain to see the truth of the game.
And for new comers of BG Ashran, my suggestions are:
- Teamwork (nothing more important)
- No infighting! Help each other. Direct displeasure at your opponent not your teammates.
- Get a Lead and follow/support him/her, get a Plan in place when the game start. Figure out how to get their boss with minimal effort
- If you really don’t like Ashran, Leave before it starts. But if you choose to stay, then stay till the end.
Now you have the chance to obtain victory, instead of picking up ones dropped by the opponent. Regardless, we welcome all with sincerity, if you decide to give it a try
I like WG and other Epic BG as well. However, Ashran is the only element in Wow that I truely, and still love.
