Minimum range, dead zone, and pet happiness are things I absolutely do not miss.

…right?

Funny thing is, spec survival and that’s what Wyvern sting is for. Also having rpg elements in an mmo is a good thing.

oh yea forgot about hunters having mana…lol

of the starting classes, hunters having pet happiness and ammo are understandable and easy to maintain. not like warlocks soul shards or warriors gear

This is always a bad excuse. Often these so-called “rpg elements” are pointless time-wasters that add nothing tangible to the game, and they get defended with little more than declarations along the lines of “that’s what RPGs are meant to do”. Why? How exactly does it improve the experience for anyone?

being able to craft reagents for classes who needed/required them for certain spells and abilities was a good thing, and wasn’t difficult at all to deal with.

And there you go again: you declare that it’s a good thing without actually detailing why it’s a good thing.

“wasn’t difficult at all to deal with” is never an excuse to keep pointless mechanics around. That’s not an argument for the mechanic; you’re just arguing that it’s easy to work around the mechanic. If it were that inconsequential, why keep it?

All the rose-colored glasses… Going to be fun when the nostalgia wears off and the actual grind sets in.

Only a small amount of people who plan to leave bfa for classic will actually return
and having that grind is a good thing.

I can deal with ammo and mana. Having to feed my pets scooby snacks to keep it happy was stupid. I remember there were glyphs and talents that could also do it, but it just felt like micromanaging for the sake of micromanaging.

This is assuming that ‘WoW Classic’ will be the exact same thing as ‘WoW Original’.

If so, there are more things to consider.

  1. You will lose a bag space, because you have to put a quiver there to hold arrows.
  2. When you tame a pet, and it is of a lower level than you, you will have to go out and level him up by killing mobs. It will not automatically be the same level as you when you tame it.
  3. If you do not carry food for your pet and he loses all happiness, he will abandon you.
  4. Hunters will wear leather until level 40, when they can equip mail. So for 39 levels you will be competing with other leather wearers for gear, just be prepared for much arguing about ninja’ing loot!

More, but this is much to consider for now … 8)

this hunter was made before even MC or Battlegrounds existed. I will have no problem with such things again.

[/quote] i have a feeling it will not be pure classic, i am betting personal loot will move over.

Life is full of time wasters. I have to wash dishes. I have to wash my clothes. I have to commute. Etc. etc. I wish I didn’t have to do those things. Just like the devs in WoW, I have worked towards my own QoL improvements (lower commute time e.g.). But QoL improvements are not always the ideal state of being, at least not to everyone.

A friend of mine has a gun collection and a shooting range on his property. Needless to say he goes through a lot of bullets. He felt he was spending too much money on bullets so he decided to make his own. Of course the cost of the equipment to make those bullets was not cheap. Who knows how long it took to break even (if he is even there yet). It also takes a fair bit of time to make them. But he finds enjoyment in the process. It is empowering to be self sufficient, and relaxing to do manual labor when all you do is write code all day.

That doesn’t really address the question, “How exactly does it improve the experience for anyone?” For that we need to dig a little bit deeper.

Life is life in no small part because of the “meaningless” things we do. We are immersed in our life because we have to live each moment of it, even those moments that are less fun than others. So wrt to making ammo in WoW as a hunter, it provides a sense of empowerment and immersion. There is definitely merit in that, even if it is not for everyone.

I personally never minded making my own ammo. I never minded losing a bag. I also wasn’t sad when I didn’t have to do it anymore. Just like getting a shorter commute, this QoL change was welcome. However, I can say looking back I am less invested in my Hunter now than I was then. I felt a connection to my pets when I had to feed them. Now I feel nothing. I felt empowered when I used my own homemade thorium ammo. Now I feel nothing.

While I know a lot of that “feeling nothing” is because I am very disappointed in the direction the devs have taken with my otherwise favorite class, some of it I can attribute to the lack of immersion and self sufficiency.
