For the Alliance?

When I played back in the Classic days, I always thought it was:

  • “FOR THE HORDE!”
    and

  • “GLORY TO THE ALLIANCE!”

So that way they don’t seem like robotic, unimaginative copies of one another with a word switched out.

Each would be their own sorta thing – They have a different manner of flavour about them.

Are there really still people who feel pride for the two factions of this game? :joy:

You have the choice between a faction with demi-gods, who are too incompetent for pretty much everything and a faction that blindly follows any random psychopath like sheep, cheerfully killing and destroying everything in their path.

If I could, I wouldn’t choose either of the factions.

He’s using the power given to him by the light to swing the battle.

Just like crazy dead lady used the power given to her by death a few seconds earlier to swing the tide for her side.

I tend to think of it like living on Earth… Where the rulers have always sucked, do suck currently, and in the near and distant future are going to suck.

That said, almost every decision in content displays that the people that are working on the game do not think about how it will be for “horde” players… Travel routes, corpse runs, “story” beads, and most cosmetics, etc. They really need to ACTUALLY get rid of faction or HIRE someone who’s not a Nelf main.

Maybe it’s just the voice they use, but Humans always sound bored when they say it.

“For Azeroth!” has a better ring to it anyways

The old WC2 archer units had a way of saying it that sounded good. Just kind of rolled off the tongue.

That’s the generic battlecry for both. The devs just need to do what they said they would do fifteen years ago and think of a good battle cry.

There has got to be one pro-Alliance dev who cares about the faction…right?

Alliance should’ve disbanded ages ago.

You should be proud to know you share a class and race with Ion, who has always mained an Orc Shaman.

Now that all the races are playing nice with each other both the Alliance and Horde should disband.

Leaving every race to come up with their own battle cries.

Hand in your Death Knight badge immediately! There’s no room for hippy stuff in the Ebon Blade!

Anduin is coming back in The War Within and Sylvanas is still in her deserved franchise-exile, so it’s fine.

Really!? That’s actually a surprise… There was, at one time, a sentiment that most of Blizz was Horde playing/biased, but I presume they were the creeps shown the door.

How is that not a surprise? I have yet to see a new dev declare their allegiance for the Alliance, but there are plenty FTH out there!

That’s a weird take to me… From a hub/race/ perspective, especially in “storytelling,” there has been no good horde development in a long time. I haven’t heard anyone say there is a clear horde bias since, what, Wotlk? Wrathgate the team basically said “welp, there’s the good guys and the mustachio twirling Barbars.”

Oh man. Nobody’s talking about how we ended up with the battle cry?

Okay, kids, gather up! HISTORY TIME.

Back in the old days, everybody in the Horde agreed that our battle cry was “Lok’tar ogar! Blood and thunder! FOR THE HORDE!”

But the Alliance players? They could not agree on anything. (Because, to be fair, the RTS games had a few different battle cries for the Alliance — For the Alliance! For the Light! For Azeroth! Etc…)

A good half of them wanted “For the Alliance” because it literally mirrors “For the Horde.” The other half hated the idea of having Alliance mirroring the Horde’s battle cry.

There were legitimate arguments and fights on the forums for YEARS over the battle cry, and it got pretty pitched in… I wanna say sometime around MoP or WoD?

There was even a poll for the Alliance battle cry. (I don’t recall whether it was a Blizzard poll or just a fan poll that got lucky with its timing.)

“For the Alliance” won, and when Legion launched, Varian said exactly that on the screen, so that was it. “For the Alliance” became the official battle cry, mirroring “For the Horde.”

Personally? I think it’s a huge shame. I never liked “For the Alliance,” because I hate it when the Alliance and the Horde mirror each other, instead of having unique things for themselves.

That, and I voted for “Glory to the Alliance!”

To this day, I’ll only use the ‘Glory’ battle cry. I’ll never understand why the Alliance players DIDN’T vote for this cooler battle cry!

Oh well.

The Dwarves have the best battle cry:

“Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!” means
" “Axes of the Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!”

Even though these are Dwarves from a different franchise, I think the Dwarves of Khaz Modan should adopt it.

Also,

Back in the day, when these war cries were debated, I’d admit, “For the Alliance” did sound kind of awkward, that is, until the BFA Anduin said it, then it sounded pretty Epic! But I think you need to add “Stand as One!” before, to make it work,

For the Alliance (Warcraft II) predates For the Horde (Warcraft III).

Glory to the Alliance is not a battle cry. It’s like “Fame for me!” and doesn’t work, which is why no one liked it.

“For Azeroth” is the generic battle cry encompassing both Horde and Alliance, so that can’t be an Alliance battle cry.

The devs have developed several catchy Horde battle cries, because, as Metzen said, their “heart has always been with the Horde” and “Alliance characters are just too difficult to write”.

Lok’tar Ogar!
For the Warchief!
Victory for the Forsaken!
For the Horde!
Victory or Death!

Alliance battle cries are either given to the Horde (For the Alliance!) or just stupid because there is no dev who cares about the Alliance, or they would have come up with at least one, right?

For the Light doesn’t apply to all of the Alliance

Stand as One! though delivered powerfully by Anduin at the start of BfA is more of a defensive battle cry, like “Please let us survive” or, as a Blizzard dev said, making fun of an Alliance player at a past Blizzcon “Have Mercy” (poor guy, he didn’t deserve that), then to mockingly say “We’re working on it” fourteen years ago shows exactly the amount of attention that devs have when it comes to the Alliance.

In just the few minutes where I have written this post, I’ve come up with several. Perhaps none of them are as good as the Horde battle cries, but it shows that I have spent more time than the devs. They aren’t even trying.
