I know there are lots of Afghanistan vets here from the all over, the us, Canada, uk etc some who I’ve bumped into playing wow. It’s a sad day in Afghanistan but know we still do appreciate the sacrifices you gave there.
Updated - this thread isn’t about politics or what went wrong, it’s just to recognize the vets who were there, and families that supported them here in the wow community.

For the second time, the Afghan government has fallen to extremists. First, Russia abandoned Dr. Najib. Now, Ghani has fled. A dark day for human rights.

The taliban gets to use all the toys we left behind in the draw out of the country, seems we did a whole lotta nothing in the last 20 years there.

Three empires have now failed to control Afghanistan
- The British
- The Soviets
- The Americans
Will we ever learn? Sticking around to “nation build” back in 2002 was stupid. Look where we are now. 2021 and it’s ending as it began, with the Taliban in control.
So why did we even bother?

As soon as Bin Laden escaped, we should have gotten out of there in an orderly manner. Unfortunately, a lot of crooks got to make a lot of money, and now we are stumbling out of there in the worst way possible. What a waste.

Respect the soldiers, not the armies.
I personally lost multiple guildmates overseas. I do not forgive the entities that sent them over there for those deaths.

It ended up like the Fall of Saigon.

This is a complete repeat of what happened in Iraq. We left the country and Isis just walked over the government forces and had to spend years fighting to retake the country.
Probably going to end up being the same exact thing in Afghanistan.

I definitely feel bad for all of the people who lost their lives and limbs or even just months to years of their life there because we decided that we could sweep in and force another country to build and defend a government to our liking.
I’m sure the shareholders of Boeing, Raytheon and other arms dealers and government contractors got what they wanted out of it, though.

A few people had a bad idea and a lot of people went along with it.
The Family Guy sketch about it comes to mind:
“Anybody who doesn’t want to go to war is gay!”
“I’m not gay, I love war!”
“Yeah, me too! War is great!”
“I WAS THE FIRST TO WANT TO GO TO WAR1!!”

After they grab Taiwan. It will be a small litmus test to see how the world responds, if at all.

The Timurid Empire did conquer Afghanistan. The Mujahideen only won due to foreign support and Soviet incompetence. Never should have given them a dime.
