I hope we become much stronger with our new hero talents. Right now I feel like I suck hard
The new hero talents wonāt make survival better for you if you feel itās not good now. You should try to get better at the SV basics instead:
- correct positioning
- hit and run playstyle
- correct pet management
- knowing when to use defensives proactively
If you try to play SV like you play warrior/DK, it will always feel super bad. You must embrace the hybrid half-ranged/half-melee skirmisher hit-and-run playstyle or reroll another melee. The hero talents for SV are 100% passive and will not change how the spec feels to you at all.
I understand that. which im actually thankful for. I am just hoping the talents bring in more dps is what im saying. which i think they will.
The DPS increase will be the same as for the other specs in the game, so you wonāt stand out as SV due to the new hero talents only.
You should be able to do pretty well as SV as it is, even in prepatch with the skewed armor values.
Aeox, Kirenaika nailed it with that explanation. Survival is not the typical zug zug melee spec. Weaving between range and melee is where it is at. It also requires a bit of cunning if you want to be successful with it.
I think Survās hero talents can be good and will rely on balance tunning. The biggest problem I see atm is that almost all our abilities, including Sentinel do Aoe dmg, and can easily break cc
IDK why everyone thinks im playing it like a melee spec. Iām def not lol. All I was saying was my dps feels lackluster but ofcourse its probably because of hero talents. Iām sure theyāll fill in the gap i feel like. Iāve also got to remind myself this isnāt end game anymore. Weāve got 10 more levels, hero talents, and end game gear to snag before I should make any assumptions.
this is something to practice constantly. Nice to see a reminder of it. I may put this on a sticky note on the bottom of my pc to make sure i am reminded of it daily.
If you are playing always from range and to getting involved in some melee combat, you will not do as well as doing both. I feel you I wish this spec was full range, but that is not happening any time soon.
Because RSV won the war and we have the absence of a certain Barthilasian/Frostmournean goblin hunter to show for this, you might see how you could make it work staying at range the whole time.
I donāt like it, but I might probe into this myself. Whenever I get bored. Iām sorry to say in advance that full-open beta play starting next week is not a top priority for me.
I still find it ⦠that you canāt macro-swap weapons for Coord. Thatās already unforgiving to the experience. But I think if hero classes pull through somehow, you may never have to do anything in melee at all if you donāt want to. But KShot is even more unforgiving too.
Anyway I agree: buff RSV!
I never said I was always playing from ranged. Yāall putting words in my mouthā¦but I still appreciate the info either way.
I gotta practice weaving in and out of ranged and melee.
Well Iāve been maining survival for a while now. Itās certainly much harder to play at the moment, this is due to kill command weaving and how coordinated assault works.
We lost a large chunk of up front on demand. You need to kill command before anything or else youāll be losing damage. In addition, the kill shot is now a proc and the new triple explosive shot is after CA ends. This makes timing burst much harder.
Survival could still be quite good, but itās going to take a lot of learning and adapting to this new play pattern. All that being said the skill floor for the class went way down. Weāve yet to see if the ceiling was raised or not for skill.
I have mixed feelings about this. I believe I can adapt to these changes potentially, but Iām worried it will make an already niche spec even harder to jump into for new players.
But you said the skill floor went way down. How would this be hard for new players to get into? You have to generate Focus, and that takes casting KC. Unless you want toā¦weāre going to use that cliched sayingā¦play suboptimally.
All the other melee specs are probably laughing at us right now, and rightfully so.
Sorry, I did not mean to imply you were playing a certain way. All I can say is that Survival is in a great spot. I think is a very easy spec to learn, but takes lots of practice to master.
How did they win when SV is still melee?
Winning a war doesnāt mean that the defeated party is completely gone. It means in a nutshell that their contribution to the aftermath and history is lesser in comparison to the victorious party. MSV lost critical executive decision making in spec fluff and crunch.
MSV has been fighting a losing war since Legion, and as of TWW, does not have the upper hand in dictating playstyle and meta. Not that it ever did for very long; it was DOA in Legion which created the vacuum of victory for RSV to fill. Thatās talking about something that took 8 years to do, and weāre not getting that time back. MSV had 8 years to prove it could be a viable melee DPS and run with the other MDPS big dogs. They have failed every expansion.
Until BM mitoses itself away from MM and SV to become its own class, I deign not to engage further. Itās a done deal as long as Hunter still exists. There has to be a new class in order for SV to try again; everythingās got to be redone and reworked from scratch. 8 years, my dude. Failing that, thereās always Classic Legion to get into in ~2030, or SoD: SoD has some nice Rune choices for melee Hunter.
SoD is probably the best way to do melee any-spec. In Cata at the moment, I witnessed that Cata BM is the rough equivalent of Retail SV: BM leans more on ranged but can be in melee as needed. In fact, a Cata BM can easily hardcounter a SV or MM right now, itās actually funny.
So here are the viable post-war MSV choices:
- SoD.
- Cata BM.
- Classic Legion, with someone oddly having posted a Trollface meme poster on the door.
- The new-ish two-spec Ranger class that has the specs Marksmanship and Survival, the latter a dedicated melee specialist from its dedicated ranged specialist counterpart.
Edit: So yes, on paper, MSV still exists. Its āpreferredā weapon is a staff/polearm and its most important abilities requires an equipped 2Her. But just like other melee DPS being able to do things at range when it has to, SV can do things in melee when it has to just like any RDPS that gets thrust in a melee situation. It makes MSV nothing more than a formality, pending class mitosis coming soon enoughā¢.
The hilarious part is that Sentinel is easily better then Packleader in every way. Even gameplay wise, they decided to make Packleader interact with a builder for us which is so weird. If it interacted with Mongoose Bite it would feel so much better and number tuning would make it good.
Yea, that sucks. Pack Leader was created with BM in mind, and since survival needed another hero talent, we ended up with it. In my opinion, Dark Ranger should have been for all Hunter specs. Pack Leader will need to be updated in the future since it, by the looks of it, is one or maybe the worst Hero Talents.
are u kidding sv is top 3 melee dps in beta
i disagree
pack leader is super for pvp
the ranged dps kill command resets are great til you are Ready to melee
as well as the super heal
Yes, it is; design-wise, it is terrible; it underminds all the survival changes/rework.
