I’m seeing a lot of new names pop up in the AH when selling leggos now (not unexpected given the nerf), and it’s obvious that many new sellers are misunderstanding how things work on the AH. So to recap and for those who aren’t already aware of this on the forums:
-Undercutting the price of something is not required to be “on the top”. The Auction House is a Last-In-First-Out system. If your listing is lower or equal to the lowest price, and it’s the most recent, it’ll sell first. You don’t even have to undercut by a single copper. “Undercutting” now simply means being the last person to post a listing at the lowest price.
-Unless there are bots running rampant, severely undercutting to the point where the profit is 0 or less will do you no good. Sure, it’ll do us goblins good when we buy your stuff for less than crafting cost and turn a profit, but it won’t be good for you when you lose gold trying to be “clever”. If you suspect there are bots on your realm, test that out using low-cost items first, not legendaries.
-If you’re entering the legendary market this late into the game, great on you for giving it a shot. But, do note the buyers are scarce at this point in the patch.
-Also, a lot of us who have an established foothold in the legendary market have no problems cornering the mats if we seem competitors try to pull dumb moves. That Progenitor Essentia you thought was at 1.5k, but is now 26k? Sorry but you’re being weird about your AH’ing and we have to look out for #1.
-I recommend using TSM or Auctionator to aid in buying/selling. TSM has a learning curve but does a nice job at helping you post and cancelscan to stay competitive.
-To do really well on the AH on things outside of raid BoEs or other very rare items, you’ll need to treat the AH (and likely professions as well) as your endgame. It takes time, dedication, a small bit of brains and a good eye to make a killing, but it can be done. Be smart about it.
