For Horde, is Deadmines really worth running?

So I’ve run Deadlines four times now as a priest, and I’ve never seen any items worth equipping. Once you’ve run Wailing Caverns and finished those quests, you’re kind of geared beyond any improvements that Deadmines can offer. And I imagine that they were designed to be reciprocal to each other.

So why do you run it? Is it just for the XP given the daily locks on dungeons? Is there a particular item for your class that is worth the trip? Is Smite’s weapon the big draw?

Just curious.

I certainly wouldn’t run it. It’s incredibly long for a lowbie instance, theres no quests to complete for horde and it’s kinda boring. There is some decent loot in there but nothing worth the hassle.

I certainly would run it. Some of the drops are useful for quite a while for a low level instance and it’s always a fun dungeon. There are several pieces of loot worth the hassle, of course they may not ever drop: cruel barb, bis physical dps cloak for many levels, smite hammer amazing for Druids (decent for warriors and shaman,) defias chest bis for bears until like level 44, wand for casters.

The run isn’t bad either and is risk free.

Risk free?

There’s an opportunity cost to the run to get there and without any quests I doubt there’s a a valid EXP argument for it to be worth the time investment. I also don’t what how dangerous the route is for Horde to get there safely.

I think this is very subjective; there’s a strong argument it’s not worth the hassle for a chance at loot, but some people just find it fun to run dungeons and try to nab some loot. If you enjoy doing dungeons and want to be a completionist who does every dungeon you can realistically do and push a few extra levels before going to a new zone then go for it.

I do a lot of rather inferior routes just to complete zones whereas from an efficiency perspective they are not always worth it.

Risk free. Zep from UC to stv, abandon ship near zg isle and swim on up.

Good Blue rarity 2H weapons and leather fully optimised for Rogues/Hunters seem to be strong motivations to do Deadmines, OP

That’s the biggest reason for my runs. I just enjoy doing dungeons, really.

Yeah, fair. Still pretty niche draw, though.

WC seems longer and harder, but maybe I am just a lot more experienced in DM. I was soloing WC on my hunter at 33 and those raptors that call for help call for A LOT of help. Got scary.

Most people just probably run it for something different. It’s not really that worth it for Alliance to run WC and for Horde to do Deadmines. If you’re looking to be the most efficient, you could have used that time to get more levels in the amount of travel time you waste.

They are fun to do after you get sick of doing one of them all the time though. Change of scenery.

Smite’s Hammer is BiS for Warrior until Gnomer/WW Axe. It’s an absolute beast.

Cape of the Brotherhood is great for any melee class.

Blackened Defias Armor is decent for rogue/hunter, although maybe a little low on offence for hunter.

Cookie’s wand is BiS for a while.

Cruel Barb is amazing for rogue, decent for tank.

Emberstone Staff is amazing for any caster.

Corsair’s Shirt is great for priest.

So yea, it definitely can pay off if you’re willing to invest the time. A little something for everyone.

That’s definitely WAY easier than getting to Wailing Caverns is for Alliance.

Wailing Caverns I don’t think is worth doing at all for Alliance characters. In the time you spend trying to find a group willing to make that ridiculous journey to the instance you could have level’d twice, 3 times, even 4 times depending on what you’re doing.

Shadowfang Keep is only worth doing if you’re a caster or if you’re a Paladin working on their mace quest. That run is also ridiculous and dangerous too if you get unlucky with mob pats on the road.

If you don’t have a quest in the dungeon, it’s not worth doing.

On the opposite side Alliance can do quests for WC, get a 10 slot bag and some of the loot there you can’t get in DM.

If you plan on twinking or just staying in your 20s for awhile, sure. It’s not worth it if you level at a decent pace and expect to hit 30 in a few days.

Depends on your objective. If your goal is to get to 60 as fast as possible, almost all dungeons are waste of time. However, if you don’t care about speed and just wanna have fun and enjoy being geared you can do dungeons. DM’s Cookie’s wand is BIS for around level 20 for priest.

If anything DM has Smite’s Mighty Hammer. Arguably the best BoP two hand weapon levels 17-25.

I thought Wailing Caverns was meant to be the Horde equivalent of that one?

No low level instance in opposing faction territory is worth the time to get there and run.

Other the caster staff and cruel barb it’s not worth it.

Few more levels higher and your into SFK, a far better dungeon.

Or BFD. If you need XP badly enough run WC.
