For all those who are upset at the new changes for twinking

Hello all.

I would like to take the time for a serious matter talk and break down the Twinking community from the past to now. (Please Read through it before commenting. mostly at the end to understand what point I’m getting across)

What is twinking?
For all that do not know, a Twink by Warcaft means is someone who strides to achieve the best gear and the best Idems at given level. This is no different from a player at max level striving to get the top tier gear. (besides the amount of effort of skill and planning but some may argue twinks have the same walls or barriers)

The Twinking Community
It is true that the Twinking community is a small amount of people in this game. Some are good people, and some are bad. We all have those people in communities but as gamers, we all have a voice. from the casuals to the elitist. I am not part of this group however I tend to be a lone wolf, but if someone does want to learn or is interested in twinking, Id be glad to help and I’m sure my colleagues here can agree.

History Lesson
I am not going into complete detail of our history, but I am going to skim over it. Back Before WoTLK there was no xp in bgs. the way to level was by world content and dungeons. In WoTLK we introduced xp in bgs, with that the birth of xp on and xp off were born. The purpose of this system was to keep the organically pvpers the old feel of staying in one bracket for they were the masters of their craft and is now one of the hottest debates in the forms since 2008. With this I’m going to break down the pros and cons of having a xp on and xp off system during the time of pre BFA.

Pro-XP On and off System with no break of brackets PreBFA (Left Side)

  • Quicker Que Times.
  • Help Teams have an advantage
  • encourage players to get involved and push with a experienced players
  • encourage players to better themselves, (The neckbread cycle)

Con-XP On and off System with no break of brackets PreBFA (Right Side)

  • No need for Leadership skills
  • Everyone is the same and no one is better than someone else
  • Does not encourage players to seek out new and better items
  • Does not prepare players for end game content
    Summery
These here are just a scratch on the surface of some points and far from just 8 bullet points but all I’m doing here is showing a spectrum of the far left and the far right (not making this political just showing it as a comparison)

BFA Twinking
Now, that we have context and a background, Lets talk about BFA twinking. What I loved about the system played in BFA was the Level to Scale system (LTCS) for Battlegrounds that have been applied to low level pvp. this means a player with no gear and is completely new to the game has the chance to stay alive with his or her group than being 1 shot in the field by another player.

BFA Goldie-lox System of LTCS
This system of Low Level PvP was the best balancing system I have ever seen in Warcraft history for low level pvp. But! It did have a Issue on
Four points.

  • Healers were way Over Powered and needed balancing
  • Mages were Over Powered and needed balancing
  • Druids were Over Powered and needed balancing
  • Some DPS Classes had a more Damage Output that Triples other Classes and Grand Fathered Items were abused (you know who you are)

In most brackets the top Classes were:
Druids,
Mages,
Shamans,
Monks,
Rogues
The Rule of Thumb
“If it takes more than 2 Geared players to take you down as yourself of a geared player, It needs balancing”

In Conclusion
My whole point in this post is that There was major potential in blizzard to unite both the Community and the Twink Community. It was a balance system that needed a few fixes here and there. It was both a mixture of the left side of things and the right side. But it was too late it was leaning way to much to left side of unbalancing to allow the majority of the community to raise up in arms and say no more. I ask my fellow colleagues in the Twink community to learn from this and not fight and kick the community for it, but to say “We only ask for fairness, and we will meet you in the middle.”
DISCLAIMER I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MY BRACKET THAT I PLAY IN, YOUR BRACKET MIGHT HAVE ITS OWN SET OF CHALLENGES AND CLASSES!

P.S. I know a lot of it was explaining, and to some it might be completely wrong in peoples eyes. but I want you all to know I am just trying to educate the ones to see what we see.

“an educated mind can never be enslaved, and thus will never be the sheep.”

Ah, another twink worthy of respect!

May I ask, what is your idea of meeting in the middle?

I’ve found it strange that most of the twinks posting do not seem to understand they need to give something, if they want a chance at non-twinks warming up to the thought of playing alongside them.

My Idea of meeting in the middle is remove the border on bracket separation is number one. This is simple supply and demand, you have the supply of players the less time per q. in exchange, My idea is fix balancing, that is critical. 2nd is Cap on ilvl per Battleground. if you have twinks ilvl 23 and above in que, you are limited to 3 twinks per 10 man battleground or 5 per 15 man battleground, and No premades (that is what warmode is for if you want to premade.)

p.s. this is an idea, I am saying this in order to get the ball moving towards a middle ground trust me it hurts saying this as a twink. but We have to give some to win some.

These imbalances make 19s Xp-On gross. If Blizzard is worried about new player experience, waiting 13 minutes or more for this much imbalance isn’t selling any subscriptions. With twinks around at least some of each team will break a gy camp. It surprised me this weekened to see so many XpOn players leave bgs after waiting 13 minutes to get in. The experience was so gross that nearly half a team gives up each match? Something is wrong with the game in XpOn.

As for twinking, itemization and enchanting, even heirlooms(because of how quick they are to slot and enchants can last forever), all the twink boosts should serve to mitigate balance issues. In TBC that’s ultimately how it worked, all classes/specs could stack enough stamina to be effective in their role on the battlefield. Glass cannon specs were ultimately capped by diminishing returns.

Now though, the gross imbalances just get worse for the overpowered classes when they twink. Some of it is spec design, healers don’t oom. Some of it is too few offensive stats, so boosting them is too easy.

XpOn 19s though, just gross. I can remember back to 19s Vanilla and TBC, getting a graveyard on farm was not a near guarantee. Heals weren’t as effective, mana was used up, pets died, melee had to retreat cause not enough healing. And when the gy was raised up players could go back inside and be effective. This was especially true if the team being farmed was mostly melee.

Somehow Blizzard has managed to make a great WSG experience worse.

Then there’s AB, I haven’t seen so many 5 caps in a long time, and 6 minute games either. That 19 BG isn’t winning any subscriptions either.

The thing I’m upset about is how how all these damn twink threads have hijacked the Battleground forum. At this point, it’s a little obnoxious.

This…even when twinking was in it’s prime and we had battlegroup forums, it wasn’t this bad.

Thank you all for the feedback!

Admittedly it is kind of annoying, even as someone who enjoys twinking (even if I just recently got back into it before the patch).

However, just like the cries to do something about twinks, maybe this will help show people and blizzard that while there was some issues with twinks, more of them were balancing on blizzards part.

It is an issue and it needs to be addressed.

Its the twinks that are leaving early because they dont want the xp.

Oh how we laughed at this.:joy::smiley::smile:

Are you saying low level bgs are balanced? By their very nature some classes will be more OP than others because of talents etc. These are the classes twinks flock to, the FOTM classes. Feeling overpowered over others is the game let’s not pretend it’s anything else. Thanks!

Either is the new twink level 20’s don’t have to pay to wreck people.

Kind of his point. Blizzards lack of low level balance brought out more imbalance. The imbalance is STILL there despite the split, so it was a bandaid fix, which low levels actually benefit by not even subbing… great design

They will fix it for the level 20’s that dont have paid accounts believe me it will happen.

They would have to really overhaul low level BGs, which they haven’t ever done other than removing “twinks” so GL with that thinking.

If you believe low level balance will ever happen…then I’m sorry it wont.

Exactly my point. They removed twinks but it doesn’t actually solve anything

We will wait and see. An army of folks not paying for accounts… I can’t see that lasting too long. Activision will sort that out lol.

Nah, they are that inept.
