Follower Dungeons set an unrealist expectation for new players

Here’s some of the problems with follower dungeons:

  • The tank stays within range of the healer at all times
  • The DPS avoid damaging mechanics
  • There’s no arguments in chat
  • The bots are using food/water right away out of combat to help the healer
  • The DPS are attacking the right target(s) and not pulling threat
  • The DPS are not pulling for the tank

I thought I would try out follower dungeons on a brand-new alt to give healing a try (haven’t been a healer since AQ40), but I don’t feel that it really helped me prepare for dungeons with actual people.

Follower dungeons are mainly for:

-Allowing people to see the content without any pressure.

-Being able to configure your UI & addons without being vote kicked.

-Free mage food.

For actually learning how to group with real people, we still have Normal and Heroic 5-mans.

what are you talking about that stupid hunter leaps around like he’s a chicken with it’s head cut off, he’s constantly pulling extra stuff.

ya, that’s why the hunter bot when I did one for kicks was pulling everything LOL

I queue follower dungeons as dps and solo the dungeon at top speed to finish my weekly quests. The followers are getting the real experience

Really? He was very well behaved during my runs.

This has happened to me too. I want to put him on a leash.

Did you vote kick him from the group???

It absolutely doesn’t. I am currently doing a lot of follower dungeons trying to get trinket drops for the Stonevault mount quest chain, and…I DPS the entire dungeon myself, tossing an occasional rejuv.

The only thing follower dungeons are good for learning in my opinion is how to press your buttons / getting familiar with a new set of talants, new rotation, or keybinding spread. They are very useful in that regard, and for new players or new-to-class players, they are truly very valuable in that way.

As to “now you’re ready for real dungeons?” Yeah…no.

The one use I could see for preparing for real dungeons is getting to know layouts. Especially for tanks.

I think they got follower ai spot on.

  1. Tank stands in avoidable damage
  2. Hunter keeps pulling extra all the time,if you don’t get hunter in group then it is shaman who pulls
  3. Tank loses agro often
  4. Healer lets dps die

  • No ridiculous vote kicks

The one I always see pulling stuff is the healer. She’s all over the place and will run into mobs in some of the dungeons. LOL

I decided to try my hand at healing. I went to the he Temple of the White Tiger in Panda land to get a start. That was helpful. Then I tried a Follower Dungeon but almost no one lost much health and needed to be healed.

Maybe they should have tiers like Delves do where they get harder as you work your way up.

Also learning the routes of dungeons.

Right? Ive never encountered any amount of “danger” (no matter what class I’m playing) in a follower dungeon.

Sorry this is 2 weeks later.

it’s to teach you the dungeon. not teach you people.

No, it isn’t.
Follower Dungeons is literally just for completing quests. Beyond that, some folks want to pretend there is more to it but … there isn’t. It is quite literally the only reason why follower dungeons exist, to make it so folks can complete zone quests without going into the dungeon finder.

I agree. They’re good for a free chest on the weekly that you can complete in five minutes.

They are good for one other thing: They are excellent target dummies for new keybinds, talent builds, and rotations. Not for simming…not for numbers like a real target dummy. I mean, when I change my talents and my keybinds or when I am trying out a new alt that I’m unfamiliar with, follower dungeons allow me to test out all of my new abilities and keybinds.

Its good that its like this…maybe it’ll teach a new generation of players HOW to play the game right instead of it being a free for all where everyone seems to be literally playing against the team.
