The current iteration of follower dungeons feels like a story mode - casually move through the current dungeons, at the normal level, with little to no challenge.
This is great - I’m at the point in WoW where I have zero interest in doing dungeons with other people. It’s just not fun for me. So follower dungeons are nice.
However, there’s tons of room for growth here.
Basically, let’s gamify follower dungeons. Let’s make it a proper RPG element - make it so there’s progression:
Instead of just being provided with a full team that we have little to no connection with, make it so we build our own team - we find and recruit various followers from the game world. Other folks want to use alts and that has potential, too.
This now allows us to fiddle with party composition.
We level them up and gear them up. Eventually we can do heroics and more with them. Obviously this should never be an easier path than typical groups, but it would still be fun for many many players.
Give us ways of tweaking their behaviors a bit, too.
I really think the future of MMORPGs is in improving NPCs, and follower dungeons are a huge step. I hope it doesn’t stop here!
This is a good idea. I like the idea of using alts too, especially if the alts gain xp while adventuring with the main, but I don’t think that would ever happen.
This is an intriguing idea. We already have a plethora of followers from our mission tables, can possibly work a way to choose from them instead of the random whoever i ignore in follower dungeons anyways.
My only problem with it is that they’ll still be jumping around doing dumb stuff and that’ll tick me off to see my own characters spazzing out like idiots.
It’s easier to deal with the healer who jumps around in melee, getting hit by frontal boss attacks and dps running and jumping around five states away pulling crap we shouldn’t be pulling when they’re NPCs I don’t care about. LOL
I have no idea why we’re not using our Warband characters. When I found out about Warband and follower dungeons were implemented, I just assumed this is where it was going.
Taliesin recently shared an interaction he had with World of Warcraft executive producer Holly Longdale at the event. According to his recounting of the event at the 2:03:00 mark of the podcast, Longdale approached him as he was on the new Warbands character select screen in World of Warcraft. Then, she leaned in and asked, “Wouldn’t it be cool if those were the characters that you took as your followers in your Follower Dungeons?” After Taliesin confirmed it would be cool, she stood up and cheekily said “Hmm…” before walking away. While far from a confirmation, this unprompted comment heavily implies World of Warcraft might be working on such a feature, or is at the very least considering it.
i think it would be nice to have a random rotation of npc team mates. I wanna see an npc lock or demon hunter in my dungeon ! Good suggestions overall btw.
I like follower dungeons because it’s an easy and convenient way to get gear. I don’t want to have to search far and wide and then grind for levels and gear of 4 NPCs before I can get a piece of gear.
Agree op. I really like follower dungeons, and said the same in other threads. Hoping they at least go as far as heroic mode eventually. As of now after getting to level cap they aren’t really worth fooling with other than running them for a few stones, and profession mats, the gear that drops isn’t even upgradable to get you into heroics so it’s pretty much worthless. Like follower dungeons concept a lot more than the delve mini scenarios. Bran can go level himself for all I care and take that jumping monkey with him
I can only imagine the trainwreck that would be follower M+.
Either the AI would have to have the perfect route programmed in, or the player would have to control the route and hope the AI tank pulled off them before they got one-shot.
