Follower dungeon issue...can someone possibly help?

I came back to WoW after taking two years off and found out about these follower dungeons. I know they’re not the same as the ‘real’ thing, but I wanted to do them to be able to learn HOW to do these dungeons (pretty decent teaching tool). Anyhoo, everything was going along just fine, no issues. I always had the Captain lead the way so I could understand each dungeon and how the bosses worked. So, I decide to do Brackenhide Hollow so I can use the alter of decay to fill a few orders in leathercrafting, and that’s when I noticed that no matter which setting I had it on (for me to follow the capt or for them to follow me) the NPC’s just stand there and not move! If I brought the mobs to them, they would do just fine, but otherwise, they were static; this has never happened before, so I’m hoping that someone out there can help. I have a new computer, so that’s not the issue. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
(EDIT INFO: I just logged on my beast master hunter (only il245 atm) just to check an see if a different character would work and sure 'nuff, it works fine for her! Soooo, that leaves me with the 64,000 dollar question…why isn’t it working for my wizard?? Is there a cap after ilvl500?? I don’t go in there for the loot or exp obviously, but only for the alter of decay. And, even though I might be able to solo it, it would take way more time and I don’t think it’s worth it (unless the order client is paying alot and that’s no guarantee the work order will still be available by the time I get to the alter since there’s only a 30 minute order timer from the time you hit the create button.)

If the captain is leading, go stand near her and she should head off to the next target on her list. If you get too far away, she will stop to wait for you.

(That’s the only idea that comes to mind - I’ve run that dungeon quite often for the same reason without problems, but I’m not sure if I’ve done a run since the prepatch)

I appreciate your answer. I’ve pretty much exhausted all obvious reasons, so I’ve been racking my brain for more technical reasons. I actually uninstalled the whole game this morning and reinstalled it, and removed apps that I didn’t have previously when everything was working fine. I almost feel like the issue is right there in plain sight, but I’m just not seeing it right now. I’m just sad that I can’t use the alter at the end of the Brackenhide Hollow dungeon to do work orders. Thank-you.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to try to reproduce your issue.

Is it this warlock you are using or another class?

Are they misbehaving right from the start or do they seem to get stuck midway in the run?

Yes, it’s this warlock. And, yes, they don’t make a move from the starting point. Usually, as soon as I hit the assistance button for the capt to lead, she says her thing (which she still does), and she’ll run ahead, but not anymore. She just stands there no matter where I move; this is a real puzzle to me. The only ‘major’ thing I can think of that has changed recently, is that I changed from destruction to the demonology specialization, but that couldn’t possibly affect anything.

I’ve done this one with followers and I suspect it’s because they will say where to go and then expect you to go there and they will meet you there.

It’s a confusing dungeon. Basically, you need to fly to the next area. That’s what they’re waiting for, I suspect.

Edit: There’s also a bit where you’re supposed to go into a nearby cave to ‘save’ your location in the dungeon in case you die. It could be at that point. They will say you need to go into the cave but won’t exactly lead you into it.

It’s not the best follower dungeon. A friend and I did it and the NPCs pulled everything causing us to wipe until we learned to keep away from them and let them die if necessary.

Doing a run now and not encountering any issues. Have you been opening the cages with tuskarr prisoners? Is it possible the captain is waiting for you at one of them?

update:

So using a level 70 warlock with a voidwalker pet, queued with group finder for the Brackenhide Hollow follower dungeon. Used the dungeon assist special action button for the captain to lead and … well … it all went smoothly.

Tried again to see what happened if I ignored the cages - the captain was indeed hanging back waiting for me to open one, but once I moved past it far enough she gave up on me and took the lead again (I don’t appear to have needed to open any specific three cages she led me to, any three would do to trigger the first boss fight).

So … I’m back out of ideas, sorry.

( add-ons don’t have any way of interacting with follower AI do they? Disabling them if you have any is a standard step in any troubleshooting even though I can’t imagine how they could be interfering )

This is the dungeon where you release the prisoners from the cages, not the one where you fly to each boss area. The capt has always taken off running first in the Brackenhide Hollow dungeon. Hopefully, something will turn up that will resolve this as I’m at a loss. I’m so glad that someone (you) tried to help. I’ll keep looking into more obscure reasons for now.

I’m confusing the two, it’s been a long time.

But it does seem to be odd and may be a new bug? I would suggest going near the NPC captain, try changing it to follow and then pick a direction to see if they react and start following?

I tried that and she will face a different direction but make no effort to move one way or another; they all remain in place. I want to keep going in there to try, but I’ve read that you get locked out or something after ten tries as it counts as a run. Not sure if that’s really true, but I guess I’ll find out.

If you leave, be sure to do a reset the instance on the off chance that the instance got borked somehow.

I also have seen them ‘catch up’ if you go further into the dungeon, so that might be helpful, I don’t know.

I’ve done resets and have gone way beyond where the npc’s are to see if they follow, but they don’t. Honestly, I think it’s an unknown bug, but I’m still looking in to things I wouldn’t think would affect it (but might somehow). Ty for your input!

Good luck!

Only other thing I can suggest is try /reload or disabling addons temporarily. Sounds like you’ve got an oddball bug there.

/reload has fixed some wacky things for me recently…

Do you have another character you could take into the dungeon just to see if you get a different behaviour?

And out of curiosity, how many cages have you opened before giving up?

(oh, and don’t worry about the 10 tries thing while experimenting - that’s just a sanity limit on the number of instances per hour you can enter; if you hit the limit while experimenting you’ve only locked yourself out for the rest of the hour)

With your ilvl you can pretty much solo a follower dungeon.
