The only possible new class that makes sense within the current Warcraft lore, that doesnt overlap with pre-existing classes or specs is Goblin/Gnome Tinker.
And we wont be seeing it for a while, since Gnomes and Goblins arent even part of the SL storyline.
But, the game lacks a turret style builder, engineer type class that almost every other MMO has.
WoW also has excellent pre-existing lore to work with in making the class.
One of the most obvious specs being taken right from the WC3 Goblin Tinker himself.
Robotank.
i would imagine of the other two specs, one would be a turret/siege oriented AoE caster/builder.
And the other would be a support via mechanical pets, sentries, turrets, repair kits, etc etc.
It’s absolutely absurd to me that there’s a weapon class in-game that only two specs from ONE class can make use of.
A tinker class that can use them for at least its DPS specs would be very welcome - it’s not exactly a new suggestion, of course, but several games (some of them MMOs) have attempted a tinker/engineer class. The concept almost inherently leads to fun, inventive gameplay.
They’re quite literally never going to be balanced. They could be balanced better than they are right now, for sure, but balance is basically a pipe dream.
It shouldn’t get in the way of fun, new content.
If a “tinker” class is added it shouldn’t be goblin/gnome exclusive.
The class should also be available to dwarves, orcs, draenei, forsaken, mag’har orcs, etc., and like shaman totems the aesthetic of their technology would vary based on the race.
I fear that a tinker class wouldn’t be medieval enough for wow.
It would swear with the landscape and general theme of the game.
Pick the word that doesn’t belong : red moon, magic, enchantment, castle, sword, curse, ogre, king, farm, fully automatic gun turret, dungeon, ether, poison, dagger, … you get the idea.
Some say there’s already loads of sci-fi in the game, and gnomes and goblins are already familiar with bombs and guns… and it’s true to some extent. But if you look at the guns they still have an antique design, mostly. I fear tinkers would change that.
But I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if the class was restricted to gnomes and goblins because their population is already small.
To be fair, while as controversial as it is, Necromancer could be a viable class, at first I thought the same as everyone, it would take from DKs and Warlocks…but the Necromancers and Lichs from Maldraxxus have persuaded me into thinking their is enough unique abilities and visuals to define itself as a class potential.
Not to also mention it does fit the current expansion, perhaps future patch leads us to learn such abilities, also even on exile reach, horde side their is even an undead studying necromancy… could be a slight insight on what’s to come.
In saying that, I also think Tinkers have a place in WoW too, island expeditions have shown their could be a class with similar mechanics, turrets and gadgets.
Personally there is room for both… why can’t we get both class options? Why one or the other? Both have potential to be a Mail wearing class which we need badly. I think the community would love having two fresh classes to come into WoW, increases playability, throw in a couple of races we been asking for and I’m sold!
bards make sense too. in EVERY culture they play some sort of instruments/sing for entertainment. doesn’t necessarily need to be their own instruments that came from their culture could be a borrowed one from another culture.
in game there are instruments especially in SL there is a harp, drums, and i think 2 others that are items. there are even harps and drums you play to unlock a chest in ardenweald.
you got Jay “the bard” as well as an NPC since he won blizzcon not sure why they made him an npc as in idk the backstory around that. it just doesn’t sound right i guess for this game outside of a support class which we actually need. we are in need of ranged/support hero class or just a class in general especially with SV converted to melee so we lost 1 ranged spec.
What actual abilities would a tinker have that would make it different from another class with Engineer as a profession? Rather than just post that you want something, how about suggesting what would make it different from what already exists?
Lore wise I would agree with you. But Gnomes aren’t popular. It would turn out being like the Mechagnomes with very few people playing them. If they were able to be played by other races then Tinker might work.
