Fog effects making my graphics card go crazy

Any effect like “death effect” or any foggy type effect makes my computer graphics card go haywire. I’ve also noticed some spells that have a lot of “bloom” type effect will also make my graphics card have a fit.

Anyway to turn these types of settings down or off?

Hey, Almeda! I couldn’t find anything that our team is aware of at the moment. I may need to dig a little bit more to make sure this isn’t a graphical bug our teams aware of.

If you have a Nvidia graphics card, could you try toggling the “Ambient Occlusion” option to see if this helps? Right click on the desktop and go to the Nvidia control panel, under Manage 3D Settings, check for Ambient Occlusion and see if toggling it on or off makes any difference.

By chance, could you include some of the spells that are causing the bloom effect? Let’s grab a screenshot of what’s happening with fog or death effects, and the bloom effect with some abilities. Use an image sharing website like imgur and paste the URL between two ` (~ key) like so:

Thank you so much for the response.

So I have ambient occlusion turned off already, so that’s not the issue.

I am running an RTX 2080 made by Gigabyte. I’m going to be honest with you, I’ve had nothing but problems with this card even after two replacements, and if you look at the forums I’m not alone in that. I will replace it when I can but cant right now, so just know this card runs hot anyway and is pain in the butt.

That said, I’m not sure its really spells anymore, and I cannot pin point to exactly what is causing my card to rev up and get hot, but it happens in the same locations consistently. Here’s an example of an instance I went to today. My card started getting super hot and fans revving like crazy. We wiped in the instance and I figured on the way back, I would not encounter any issues because we were not in a big fight.

Nope

When returning to this location, my gfx card revved up again and got super hot. Once leaving this area for the rest of the instance, magically the problem is gone.

This also happens to me often when waiting for a WSG to start (before any fighting even happens, very odd).

If I encounter anymore events, hopefully during a massive fight, I will post them. For now these are the images I have. The first one is the area that caused my gfx card to go haywire, the next two are my settings.

Thank you for taking the time to help. Appreciate it.

Hey, Almeda! Thank you for the details! The screenshots and settings all look fine to me. You mentioned that the graphics card is getting pretty hot and the fans or card seems to be running a bit faster. I’m curious if the debug mode is available if enabling it seems to help with the issue.

Could you provide a screenshot of HWMonitor while running the game. Use an image sharing website like imgur and paste the URL between two ` (~ key) like so:

Spoke too soon, I was able to replicate the problem. Here’s the images.

Your CPU is quite hot, and so is your GPU at 83C. Those are likely the reasons you’re seeing weird visuals.

Yes the game makes it very hot. I’m not having weird visuals though, I’m having a problem with high temps in certain areas of the game randomly.

Right now I’m running WoW with the GPU @ 60c, might go to 65 under load.

Sometimes, even when nothing is happening at all, the GPU will SKYROCKET and spike to 85c, then once I leave the “problem area”, it falls all the way back down.

One thing to try would be lowering game’s graphics settings, or changing the API. Disabling background applications may also help! These steps may help address extra stress on the system. More info on Overheating can be found here.

Hope the info helps. Cheers!

I am having a similar issue with a RTX 3070 card. Normally the GPU usage is 30%, but when i enter any area with fog, it goes to 90+%. For example in the entrance to torghast area (right by entrance to the legendary crafter) there is a lot of fog. If i pan the camera up, the GPU usage triples and the FPS drops.
