Flying: Why must we wait until 8.2?

Now say that without crying. Also, you could just use your ground mount in order to save your almighty immersion. But you know .... can’t have any logical thinking in these forums.

I enjoy flying as much as the next person. It makes farming so much more palatable. That being said I don't have to like what they do to understand why they do it amd accept their reasons as completely valid. How would you like it if you poured your soul into a project that took thousands of man hours to complete just to have someone ignore it. Flying made sense for BC, wrath, cata and Mop because of the terrain, but they have been designing away the NEED for flying since WoW and have made it strictly a convenience. The compromise is pathfinder.

I'm sure they were/are more than adequately compensated for those thousands of man hours in the forms of hefty $$ paychecks $$ they took/take home for the work they did/do. It's funny that you mention how all of the expansions before the current devs took the reigns were designed for flight. Why do you suppose these devs have been designing away the need for flying? Is it because they can't do it as well as the giants who came before them? Is it because it costs so much more to design with three axes?

I find it ludicrous that anyone buys the excuse of "immersion" (which is completely subjective) while Blizzard offers a way to pay to skip said "immersion" in the form of a boost. The "immersion" excuse is also debunked while flight paths, teleporters and flight whistles skip far more content than a player-controlled dragon does. At least in the latter case, the player is at the controls and still in the game.

Maybe not for you, but for me, flying is a hell of a lot more than just a convenience. It's FUN. I have spent numerous hours, effort, gold, and in some cases real life American dollars on my flying mounts, and I would LOVE to be able to use them in current content before I have finished said content.

The Pathfinder "compromise" wasn't a compromise. It was a passive-aggressive edict handed down from devs who were peeved and embarrassed at being spanked by the player base who revolted against their attempt to take away flying forevermore. How many forum threads did you see before WoD asking for the devs to take away flying? Aside from a small number of PvP gankers who complained about their targets being able to get away, there weren't any.

Who ASKED Blizzard to try and take away flying forever? No one. Who ASKED Blizzard to make flying a p.i.t.a. grind to get? No one. Blizzard did that all on their own, and if you think for one second that Pathfinder was a "compromise" with the players, you are sadly mislead. There may have been an internal "compromise" between devs, but PF was put in the game solely because of monetary reasons. I'm betting the suits in accounting told them to "fix it" and "fast"...otherwise, they would have stayed the course and we wouldn't have ANY kind of flight in the game at this point.

Remember that Ion tried to remove flying forever. But the mass-unsubscription forced Blizzard to back down from that. Ion has never forgiven the playerbase for this, and will carry on his petty grudge against us as long as he's in his position.

I would feel bad people couldn’t fly to experience the whole world I created.

Instead they are grounded, locking them out from exploring everything fully.

I would know they have explored everything there is to explore after their first few alts and I know they won’t be experiencing anything new until I let them fly.

I would know I didn’t need to lock flying for a year because it serves no purpose and all it did was upset the players that enjoy flying.

I would understand there are players that enjoy different things in the game and I would understand there are players that enjoy flying.

So when I hit the switch and let people fly, they get to fully experience the world I poured my soul into. I would be happy they are now having more fun.

Everybody wins!

The people that don’t want to fly can just not fly and stay on the ground with the others. But we know they have no self control and think they have to compete in a race to get to resources and quest items even though everything is shared and random so I know not to take those players seriously.

What is so hard to understand. Blizzard has clearly stated they release flying after the story is told.

I enjoy not flying until the X.2 of the patch like in Legion, I get to explore the world it seems larger, and by the time X.2 roles out when I'm leveling more alts I can just fly by the boring stuff where I have already seen everything for the 10th+ time leveling characters to 120.

Fyi I already have 8 120's....
We're all already leveling alts. We need flying now.

Besides, by the the time flying is released the new content will likely be "no fly" anyways.

Such blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and experience would never 'fly' in
the real workplace world. And the hubris demonstrated by developers who seem to not care in the least what their community thinks astounds me.

Except the vast majority of players did vote and respond in favor of no flying at all. It should have been removed from all zones and content but a small vocal few have ruined it for all of us.

This. Apart from the very, very rare post from somebody on a PvP server complaining that they wanted to gank lowbies more, nobody had an issue with flying until Blizzard told them to.

How many threads are we going to see a day about this topic? The horse is deader.
The horse couldn't possibly be more dead.

Flying damages immersion. Devs said they don't want flying and it was a mistake to add it to begin with. Pathfinder is a compromise, be happy you'll be able to fly some day.

Cry more about your immersion. Please.

This is a straight up lie, if they removed flying the game would be dead in a matter of a few days

You no flyers just stay on the ground and never mind what's going on above you!

Never mind flying, why the hell do I have to wait until 8.1 for them to flip the switch on paragon rep? I would've gotten 2-3 cancer chests already if they weren't being stingy heckers about it.

Ideally, yes, cancer chests as a design idea would be removed from the game and the donkey intern responsible for dreaming them up chucked back into the gutter they fished him out from. But given that all the cancer chest toys/mounts that WERE FUNCTIONAL AND ON QUARTERMASTERS IN BETA have been removed from these vendors in 8.0, it doesn't look like bliztard is quite done beating this dead horse, and reintroducing it into BFA in the most insulting and transparently obnoxious way possible.

I want to fly in the game, for me it is more important than 50% of the content of the game! (of course not as important as Diablo immortal... *sarcasm*)

IT's just an easy way to let people like Ion have their way and force us to sink more time into the game. Idiots defend no flying because "Immersion, it makes the world feel bigger, I want to see what the devs made" even though you can easily do all this with Flying. I think you should get it either right when you hit max, or from Pathfinder part one. MoP had flying at max level, and it didn't ruin Immersion, the world was still plenty large, and you were able to see more of what the devs made.

This is 100% correct. If they cared even a little bit they would tell us the real reason why they delay flying for so long.

flying makes the game more fun and it is I who should determine whether or not I fly once I hit max level, not Blizzard. The developers are arrogant, out of touch with their customer base, and actively hostile to letting players play the game they want. Those who do not want to fly do not have to do so.

Flying may make the game fun for YOU but don’t presume to speak for others.

Delaying flying is one of the few game decisions that Blizzard has done right notwithstanding the vocal minority.

You ask a question, then act like you know the answer. You say it is "disregard" and "hubris". I say that is silly nonsense you thought up so you could attack Blizzard.

The devs DID NOT MAKE THIS RULE. It was made by corporate executives. The devs do NOT run this billion-dollar company.

Blizzard IS IN the "real workplace world". They are a retail corporation, in a retail business, competing for customes. That's about as real as it gets.

"What customers want" is not the only thing that a GOOD corporation thinks about. That's simply silly. If it was, Apple smartphones would cost $39.95 instead of $940. Every customer in the world WANTS them to cost $39.95.

But Apple doesn't even sell them for Apple's cost (around $240). They add $700 of pure profit. How's that for "hubris"? Apple is the most succesful company on the stock market, by NOT giving their customers what their customers want.
