Blizz trying to re-invent the wheel is what led to this point.
The most elegant solution is to have people experience content on the ground with a new expansion and unlock flying in the first patch of the new expansion.
Everything else is window dressing and doesn’t add to the play experience. Patchfinder from my view is a huge miss because it promotes game play that is not what the majority of player go out of their way to to do in a play session at level cap if they focus on raiding, rated/unrated PVP, professions, transmog hunters, pet collectors, etc.
Thank you so much for bringing this opinion to the attention of the community.
I, for one, have never heard nor seen a similar opinion stated so brazenly and, if I may, would like to thank you for your bravery in choosing to express it.
it was always a problem. some people like it some people don’t. the best solution is a period of no flight and then opening it up. the only problem with the system is the rep grind.
In a large enough population like WoW, you can find every possible opinion expressed. The fact that a few demented screwballs, as well people who just couldn’t accept the death of WPvP whined does not make it a significant, valid, or majority viewpoint, and certainly not one to make design decisions off of.
And no, that wasn’t why they made the change that they did. They barely make changes based on popular demand, nevermind fringe ideologies. Those ideologies only come in after the fact as justification for whatever shrieking madness possesses them to act.
No, the decision to remove flight was one of pure developer’s convenience and benefit. Nothing more.
hey man…you gotta give them some slack. They clearly arent as good making content as they were when they incorporated flight into the game instead of making it an afterthought.
Things change. People get older. Laziness and complacency sets in. It happens.
1.) People complain about something they don’t like until Blizzard changes.
2.) People that were content with the way things were are now upset at the changes and complain.
3.) Blizzard always loses.
right about the time Blizzard said ‘no more flight’. lol
4. THERE’S STILL NO FLYING IN TANAAN JUNGLE … AND THERE PROBABLY WON’T BE IN ANY NEW ZONES OR EXPANSIONS
When Warlords of Draenor first hit, some fans were surprised to discover that even upon reaching the new level cap of 100, they couldn’t fly with their air-based mounts in the new zones. Initially Blizzard expected to patch in flying at some point, but now it has changed its mind.
“Having looked at how flying has played out in the old world in the last couple of expansions, we realized that while we were doing it out of this ingrained habit after we introduced flying in The Burning Crusade , it actually detracted from gameplay in a whole lot of ways,” Hazzikostas explains. “While there was certainly convenience in being able to completely explore the world in three dimensions, that also came at the expense of gameplay like targeted exploration, like trying to figure out what’s in that cave on top of a hill and how do I get up there.”
“The world feels larger, feels more dangerous,” he says. “There’s more room for exploration, for secrets, for discovery and overall immersion in the world. At this point, we feel that outdoor gameplay in World of Warcraft is ultimately better without flying. We’re not going to be reintroducing the ability to fly in Draenor, and that’s kind of where we’re at going forward.” https://www.polygon.com/2015/5/22/8645293/world-of-warcraft-no-flying-tanaan-jungle-warlords-of-draenor-mmo-pc-blizzard
