When the level designers do the job well, this is EXACTLY how players should be feeling. A player should never be lamenting lack of flying mounts because they’re not enjoying the ground game.
Flying makes the boring parts of the game less boring. I don’t enjoy the chores. I enjoy running dungeons, M+, and raids.
Rewind forums a couple months back and see how many complained about the worms in Uldum and Vale. They don’t want challenge. They want unencumbered flying from day 1, and to hell any reasons that Blizzard decided to put this gate on flying.
Counter - I do the minimum required questing, I don’t go out of my way for anything I can’t immediately see how to reach, and I have yet to interact with anyone outside of gathering independently at a quest/rare spawn point in SL.
When flying is enabled, I’ll be sticking my nose in every corner of every zone and collecting as many things as I can find. Til then, I’m chore logging.
I use my roflcopter more than anything else… that’s kinda what they do.
Flight lets me see more of the world than being grounded ever could. I’ll explore the entire map, every peak, every valley, every little hole that looks like something might be there (there’s a disturbingly low number of caves behind waterfalls in this game)… grounded it’s point a to b for task at hand… flight it’s everywhere that catches my attention and I might make it to the quest I was doing sometime this hour.
“Yeah, the only time flying worked was in BC where the zones were huge. Flying would make sense if the mounts didn’t acts like super VTOLS.”
This right here… Blizzard builds an expansion around NOT being able to fly initially so the zones and frankly the world is scaled down to 100% ground mount size. Once flying is unlocked / released everything seems so small because you can fly from one end of a zone to the other in <5 minutes. I can remember pre-Cata that the journey from Ashaenvale to Thousand Needles, even on an Epic ground mount, felt like a journey.
Solution… either remove flying altogether or rescale the zones to accommodate 310% flight speed.
I agree with you 110%. Sadly that version of WoW is dead and gone.
The days of Epic gear being… you know…EPIC.
Needing to actually communicate / coordinate with your group to clear a Heroic Dungeon.
People in groups referring to you by your name rather than “Hey Monk”.
Being proud when you completed your tier set from the latest raid because you had to work for it instead of hitting a button and being porting to a watered down version that requires nothing more than “face roll keyboard = get loot.”
Yep, that game has given way to the instant gratification, everyone gets a trophy crowd.
I wouldn’t play without flying if it was gone for a long period.
For those with potatoes, this is good for peeps like me! But I mean I can handle more than just 3 people at a time lol…
They let the Genie out of the bottle.
The world doesn’t revolve around you. I’m sure this isn’t the first time you have heard that.
Does OP know that flying comes in shadowlands with the first major patch ?
That’s you.
Seconded. This is everyone who doesn’t like flying. Non flyers are like vegans or something. They don’t like meat (flying) and don’t want anyone else to eat meat (or fly).
Eww i don’t want to eat flies.
Right. Because forcing me to waste my time traveling from place to place is the total definition of fun, especially when you’re paying for that time.
I’m beginning to think that the anti-flying crowd is sado-masochistic, but has to come up with high-sounding (yet empty) claims to hide that pathology. Because so far, throughout this thread, I’ve not seen one good, cogent argument for the notion that flying has had deleterious effects on YOUR game, & therefore it hurts MINE, too. & if you can’t actually defend that claim … you’re talking bollox. So please either defend that claim, or admit you can’t.
Pro tip: you can’t defend that claim. Not just Phlynch, but everyone else trying to make similar claims. Which brings us right back to “if you don’t like flying & think it’s bad for the game, then don’t fly.” But kindly stop with this childish nonsense about taking it away from everyone else, kthnxbye.
Agreed, I love having to make the journey.
You are welcome not to use your flyer when you have pathfinder.
What in the world makes you think that design choice had your enjoyment in mind?
I got news for you antiflyers. If they’re not interacting with you in the air, they ain’t gonna do it on the ground. Most interaction is done in zone chat from clear across the map and none of you care, so why does it matter if the person you’re already not face to face with is on a dragon that’s walking like an idiot, or flying like they know what their own wings are for?
