Flying, not what we think it will be

Ok… Yes, you could not fly to all zones ever, yes, we understand this… But, you would usually take a boat with a quick loading screen, then be able to fly all over a very large area… now we have small areas we will be able to fly in, then have to FP from one realm, to Orribos, then to other realm… it’s not the same…
If you were on Zandalar, you could fly to all zones on Zandalar, then if you wanted to go to Kul’Tiras, you took a boat there and then could fly everywhere on Kul’Tiras

Did they make it where you cant fly between zones? a Boomkin has already flown without going to Terminus.

They’re only gonna let you fly in your covenant zone. Watch.

We talking between like Northrend, Pandaria, Kalimdor… Wich ofcourse we can’t fly between those, and ofcourse we won’t be able to fly between the Shadowlands zones… All I was saying is that even flight is going to be gated… So, I got attacked… but whatever, just calling it as I see it… idc anymore

Did I realise this? Yes I did. The same thing applied in MoP - you couldn’t fly to Isle of Thunder, as I recall. I think you still have to take the portal on the mainland to get there as it is in a separate instance.

However, I’ll still be able to fly in each zone, and that works for me.

A boomkin has already flown between the zones and even flew into the Maw. That implies there isnt anything stopping you from flying through the “in Between”

Lots of people do not do this. I can’t think of any occasion in the entire time I’ve been playing the game when I’ve used “auto-fly” and tabbed out. If I need to go somewhere far far away, I fly to the nearest flight master, then use the taxi.

There is an addon called InFlight that tells you exactly how long each flight will take, collected from real data as you play the game.

I flew from my Ardenweald covenant to the closest FP to the world boss yesterday; it took over four minutes (more like 15 minutes by the time I remembered I still had the game running in the background!)

Flight times from covenant to the nearest possible FP in a Calling zone are still pushing three minutes.

It’d be a brave and foolhardy developer who floats the idea of removing flying. Whoever it was who tried to do it during WoD should’ve been fired, they cost the company so many paying subscribers (many of who have never come back - and that includes some high profile former community members).

I doubt there’s enough of a playerbase left for Blizz to be able to afford millions more quitting the game.

Same sort of thing you find in the Twisting Nether in BC - nothing but swirlies.

Note that they DID allow flying between zones in Outland across the Twisting Nether.

Everyone who’s been annoyed and pointlessly slowed down by the “Great Worms” would beg to differ.

Nah.

I think you’re going to have to fly to the exit portal, then it’ll fly you to the other portal in Oribos (vice versa).

Ok? You’re responding to me but I don’t know why.

This would easily be solved by flying to the edge of the map and being able to select what zone we want to port to and just deal with a load screen. It’s still stupid but better than a flight master.

You are probably right, butttt there’s a video of a druid flapping from ardenweald to the maw so MAYBE JUST MAYBE blizz won’t hate us that much and can let us fly in space but doubt it

I don’t see why we’d assume that. flying our own mount into the gate could trigger the in-between just as the taxis do.

If you mean being unable to fly north, for example, directly from Bastion to Maldraxxus, then of course. That much is obvious b/c they are separate realms accessible only from the Oribos machine hub.

I don’t think we’ll be forced to taxi between, but I do think we’ll have to fly through the gateways and use the in-between.

Just my guess.

But didnt we use flight paths in bfa anyway? I would use a flight path to shrine of the storm even though I had flying

You asked “Wtf do you expect to find in the in-between anyway…?”

Your post is quoted right there.

I didn’t because I’m a massive cheapskate, but I probably should have.

I dont think I used a flight path after I got flying lol, just point in the right direction n fly lol

Imagine if each covenant had a new type of “flight” more or less flight whistle.

Venthyr glass door pack. Place anywhere and use them like infinite lasting warlock portals but movable.

Other versions:

Maldraxxus bone tunnel. Tunnels anywhere in SL. Only those in party can see.

Night fae plant vine network.

Kyrian angel neck grab and drop.

The difference in those examples is that they’re all separate world servers whereas all the Shadowlands zones are on the same world server/instance.

There are invisible walls surrounding each zone but they can be avoided if you can bypass the invisible “ceiling”, which you can do in Ardenweald with that dust that lets you fly combined with some tree which has a branch that extends beyond the invisible ceiling. There’s a youtube video on it. Once you’re above the ceiling you can keep going directly up for a few minutes and then glide to any SL zone.

Conventionally, though, you won’t be able to fly between zones due to invisible walls which is a bit jarring.
