I don’t know about you guys, but I am very disappointed in the way Blizzard does not design this game around flying mounts anymore. Personally I have been thinking about flying up to the top of the Heart of the Forest in Arden since the expansion came out. Well I just unlocked flying today and what’s the first thing I want to do? Fly to the top of the BIG tree and jump off with my wings. But nope…guess what…a random, invisible wall half way up the tree. Why do this? You certainly didn’t put any invisible walls on the giant sword sticking out of Azeroth. Not only that, but I still have to take flight paths everywhere, you can’t fly through the wormholes and you can’t fly in Oribos or the Maw…again I ask…WHY? Flying is literally my favorite feature of the game, I strongly believe the whole game should be designed around flying…yet its not…why does Blizzard nerf one of the best features in the game?
It’s not a nerf if it was never there in the first place
The whole game is revolved around
time-gates. You play it at THEIR pace.
Flying just became available in Shadowlands this week and was not previously present. Furthermore, prior expansions still retain the same flying abilities that they came with, so I’m not sure I agree with the opinion that flying was nerfed. Additionally, I think the state of flying is perfect as it provides a balance between those who want to fly and those who don’t. The development team has done a great job with flying in Shadowlands and all other expansions in my opinion.
With all of this said, I respect your opinion. Also, do note that Blizzard staff read the forums to collect feedback. I wish you continued success in your World of Warcraft journey!
So you are saying the invisible walls are a … good thing? I too think they have done a great job with flying in all the expansions…just not this one. That’s why I made this post.
Keep in mind that there are invisible walls present even in the Vanilla zones. There are boundary restrictions set, likely due to technical limitations. For instance, in Eastern Plaguelands I believe, there is an entire mountain range that is inaccessible and walled off. This design has been present in the game for a long time and makes sense considering what its intent may be.
They barely design the game around the game anymore. It’s all “make them take as long as possible to do anything so we can up our time played metric”.
One of them surrounds Eastern and Western plaguelands, for instance, because that’s where the OG world stops. Quel’thelas is on an entirely separate game map.
That’s the biggest bummer for me. You can fly in most previous cities. Even the smaller ones like Dalaran and Warspear/Stormshield.
This is the way it always goes. The new patch zones always have ground mounts only for at least 1 patch cycle. Nothing new here. Korthia is so small, if you could fly there it would be pathetic.
better their pace than other player’s paces
What’s that supposed to mean?
easy, pre-WoD flight was more of a race to max level then just buying flight. It wasn’t good and boiled the content as race (through unhealthy means) in order to get the item. Nobody wants to deal with content locusts
I think an out of date TomTom can cause invisible walls (or it did for me back in Legion).
It’s Blizzard passive-aggressive way of continuing their war on flying. If this kind of behavior was in any other workplace was still going on the folks doing it would have been fired by now. Sadly until someone cleans house it will continue to happen.
Honestly I am never for one to lose one’s Job but this whole thing has become ridiculous.
But in any game there’s always going to be a race to achieve something faster than others. It doesn’t just pertain to WoW
I think people often forget we usually can’t fly in new zones which are brought in, and just the original overworld.
We couldn’t fly in the Isle of Quel’danas. We couldn’t fly on that island which was brought in off the coast of Icecrown. We couldn’t fly on Throne of Thunder, Isle of Giants, or the Timeless Isle. We couldn’t fly on Argus. Us not being able to fly in the Maw was expected, and Korthia being an added area into the Maw makes flight not possible there even more understandable.
BFA zones like Nazjatar and Mechagon having flight was an exception to the rule. Not the norm. It never has been the norm.
They’ve already explained this. The reason you cannot fly in Orbis, the Maw, or the Inbetween (hence requiring flight paths) is because in order to fly in these places from one zone to the next would take a half-hour real time to get there. Or more. They didn’t wanna do that. It’s fine that you like flight, but this feels like a bit much. Flight is not the central mechanic to this game, nor is it even a focus.
Admittedly, the Maw and Korthia are pretty big areas but you previously had Quel’danas, Tol Barad, Timeless Isle, Ash’ran (Or maybee we shouldn’t count it…) and Argus -pretty sure it’s just Wrath and BFA that didn’t have a zone you couldn’t fly in.
The problem is that Blizzard doesn’t actually prioritize fun/or player enjoyment. That’s why we play each consecutive expac asking ourselves why the game isn’t as good as it used to be.
That doesn’t make sense. THEY made it like that. THEY made it so it would take half an hour to fly between these zones. They could easily either make the worm holes shorter or flying mounts faster. It also doesn’t answer why we can’t fly in Oribos. Also you could fly in the Broken shore in Legion. I am fine with not having flying in newer zones (even though I still don’t see the point) But the Maw is not a new zone. They could easily just dismount you after flying into Korthia (such like they did when you fly over WG or into the Timeless Isle)
