Flying in BC stating areas

So I was going to try farming up some Small Eggs, the best area to do that is in the Blood Elf starting area. The Dragonhawks just about always drop them, and they are abundant as well. Takes only a few minutes to gather enough of them. Flew to the closest FP for an Alliance character, and mounted up. Only to realize that I STILL CAN’T FLY IN Ghostlands or Eversong Woods. This is silly at this point to have flying unavailable in these areas and the Draenei Isles.

I always thought that was weird. They were added pre-cata, but weren’t included in the re-surfacing of Azeroth at cata impl. Perhaps it was too much an investment to make it flight ready since there wasn’t any cata content there (that I can recall)

Maybe one day but don’t think anytime soon

The Blood Elf and Draenei starting zones are not used enough for Blizz to justify the overhaul and expense needed to allow flying.
Changing them in Cataclysm would have required Blizz to add them to the actual continents, which would require overhauling everything north of the Plaguelands. When you go to either, you’re actually going to the TBC map (its why you’re able to see a party member’s arrow on the minimap if youre in Outland and they’re in either starter zone). Its why you have to load in.
Also: do you know how unfinished Silvermoon City is? It is literally smoke and mirrors.

Its because of how those areas are made if you could fly you would see all the incomplete garbage and the work to get it flight ready isn’t worth it.

The owlkin close to Auberdine use to be a good spot too, and you can fly there. You just have to go to the old Darkshore.

i’ve always farmed them in westfall for alliance

Westfall is actually better in my experience (Horde or Alliance). The birds are closer together and easier to AoE.

I agree.

And I am one of those take-flying-or-leave-it people (my orc shaman is lvl 42 and I have yet to get her flying because it is unneeded).

But there are also serious bugs in Draenor that need to be addressed and host of other problems that Blizzard continues to ignore and I don’t see this or any of those being fixed for as long as this particular company owns the game because I don’t get the idea they care about providing a reliable experience, only their bottom line.

I agree that almost no one uses them, but that’s because we can fly everywhere else. There is really no need to add them into the main map though as Outland already has flying all over the rest of the BC map. With the Dreanei isles, there is ocean preventing us from flying directly to them, and with Eversong, and Ghostlands we could still see the loading screen just like we currently do when we fly to them on a FP taxi.

I wouldn’t count on it.

It wasn’t programmed with a ceiling for flying and since it’s a low use area I would see no reason to waste resources coding it for flying.

I am all for upgrading Silvermoon and Exodar to make flying possible.

Not just for the reasons mentioned here, but to be able to see Silvermoon from the spires (maybe include empty towers for RP or whatever) and make Exodar repaired/floating etc.

Yes to flying in these zones!

probably tons of deadspace that’d need to be reworked.

It is weird that with all the changes in Cata, they didn’t consider those two small areas

Because it’s technically not Azeroth, it’s a Burning Crusade map, and was never part of the revamp or intended to be flown in.

This. All this. These starter areas are so unfinished I’m surprised they aren’t two dimensional. They aren’t going to take the time to make them flyable for your (or my, or anyone’s) convenience. I mean, never say never, but I just don’t see it happening.

Flying isn’t just something they can turn on or off with a switch. The Blood Elf and Draenei zones were not created with it in mind, and so they would need to be changed to allow for it, and that’s development time better used elsewhere, as neither area is used frequently enough to warrant it

I’m not counting on it. I’m asking for people who would be interested in this to post support for it. If enough people state that they would like to see this added then that would be the reason to devote resources to upgrading it. I understand that it is also much more than just coding as well.

Before Azeroth was revamped for flying, Stormwind didn’t even have a “sky.” It was legit tunnels with high ceilings “painted” to look like the sky once you entered the city. Probably a similar sitch with Silvermoon. They just don’t feel like doing that overhaul.

Correct the were not created with flight in mind, neither was the entire rest of the map which was redone for Cata. This is 4 small zone, and they already know how to do this. It isn’t “flipping a switch” but it’s also not as difficult as some are making it out to be. Of course no one is using those zones anymore. Even before Cata allowed us all to fly in every other capital most people didn’t use them, but that is not a reason not to do this. If anything it’s more of a reason to do it. As it stands those are still areas that have to be on a part of every server that probably has at most 5 people in them at any given time. If they were upgraded to allow flight, and stopped getting treated like red headed step children cities that they currently are, people would use them for visual aesthetics. Silvermoon is the prettiest city for the Horde. Exodar is equally unique for the Alliance.
