So what all needs to be done before I’m granted flying and when could be the fitst day i can fly after the realease of 9.1?

next Tuesday, I believe. I think it unlocks at 44 renown?

Correct, it unlocks at Renown 44 and you obtain an item that grants account-wide access to flying in the Shadowlands zones excluding Oribos/The Maw, for all characters with Master level flying on your account.
Additionally, there is a couple of new quests that can be completed in order to a) be able to ride any mount in The Maw, not just 1 of the 3 different hounds and b) remove the Eye of the Jailer debuff entirely.

Get your 2 renown this week. Next Tuesday, after the servers come up live again (so, you know, Thursday 
), you do the two quests for the next 2 renown to get to 44. Then you’ll get a final quest to open up flying.
I have hopes to be flying within 2hrs of server restart. Should be more than enough time to do whatever run around needs to be done.

This is such good news. While the covenant level to unlock will be a massive WQ slog like BFA at least its tied to playing the main content of the expansion. I hated rep grinding via WQ in BFA man did that burn me out.
Its far better than pathfinder, even if its still associated with a time gated mechanic.

If I’m at 29 renown right now, would 8 be able to get to 44 by next week?
You won 't get it this week…it will be next week you can only get 2 reowned levels a week…so next week around Thursday or so you should have it. That is if your reowned lvl 40 now. You need reowned lvl 44 to get flying.
No you can only get 2 reowned levels a week as it stands now unless this patch has a change in it…you should of gotten lvl 40 by now most folks have…at your level if getting levels remains as it was before patch…it will take you at least 7 weeks…to get too lvl 44.
It’s possible.
Do all of the callings, do the Anima and Souls quests, run LFR. You have a good chance over the next 2 weeks to catch up on all of it.

I truly hate the mechanics they have been using since WoD…I’d rather go back to where once you hit max level for the expansion just buy flying, like we were able to do before…I don’t care if we had to pay it for each toon that didn’t brother me one bit…

As it stands we were only able to get two reowned a week…so for a person at lvl 29 to get too 44 it would take at least 7 weeks.
The callings stopped dropping renown for me once I hit the 30s.
That’s not true, the catch up mechanic works for everything below 40. It’s the 40-44 that will take the two weeks. Running dungeons, doing Callings, LFR, Raids, etc. all offer chances for renown upgrades…until you hit 40.
I would save the Anima and Souls quests for last, and focus on LFR, dungeons, and callings.

Even the “epic” one once a week?
I hit 40 in less than 3 weeks, so thats 13 per week, and I was just bumbling around.

Same for me on my other alts. For some reason this one has been stuck in at 33 despite doing numerous callings this past week
