I must admit, I’m rather confused by your post as well. If you could clarify what you mean it might help. Not trying to troll, I believe every opinion is as important as the next. Perhaps this thread has run its course if all we discuss is one side of the issue.

If Blizzard funnels people into the new zones by force to acquire something they already know most players want badly (flying) they can then report the new zones as a success via player participation metrics… Even if the zones are terrible people will run them in droves to get flying…investors are told the new content is extremely popular with players…

Scaling sucks
Character toolkits are boring
Rares and chests drop NOTHING of value
Professions mean nothing
Mining nodes, herbs, fishing, skinning, all drop NOTHING of value and contribute nothing to anything
The story is the focus and completely on rails
You can’t fly at max level

Exactly. It may not be flying per se that’s making people quit. A percentage may quit over flying alone, but I think far more are quitting over the restrictive, controlling design philosophies that led the dev team to try to remove flying in the first place.

Restrictions on flight may be the most visible symptom, and a symptom that many of us dislike, but it’s still only a symptom of the larger design philosophy issues that have been altering the game since WoD.

(I also have a suspicion that things like paid boosts and the compartmentalization of professions have less to do with making it easier for players to reach endgame and play with their friends, and more to do with minimizing just how much more freedom we used to have in finding our own story path, and how much utility professions used to give. People can’t miss what they never get to experience, and if you boost them right into the current RNG grind then they don’t know what’s been taken.)

Even without the boosts, at the speed you level there is only a very small % of stuff that you still use, like goblin gliders. The splitting of the professions to each expansion can be both seen as good and bad because at least it allows players to skip 600 profession levelling points which can be either very expensive or very time consuming, or both. Imagine being on a small server that does not have much old world mats and needing to level 600 points just to start the current expac professions.
