The fact that you can’t choose skyriding v. normal flight to be MOUNT SPECIFIC is absolutely terrible game design. I was to skyride across long distances to quest or travel quickly (or sometimes I just want to aim, auto run, AFK alt-tabbed). When I’m questing in an area or farming old world stuff, I want to be able to hop on normal flight to scope the area, hover over mobs, etc. Now there’s a 5 second cast to swap between these two forms and it’s the most obnoxious change I can think of. Skyriding is horrible is short/tight distances (like scoping out quest area/hubs/landing and traversing for specific things repeatedly). That’s why I just want to get on a normal flight mount for that, but there’s a 5 second cast to toggle between them. Ridiculous.
I get that this might not bother some people, but over the course of the last few years there’s been so many slight instances of small and nuanced changes and quirks that eventually there’s the one thing that finally puts you over the edge that Blizzard is either out of touch and doesn’t respect player time, or simply doesn’t think through basic game design issues like they used to. This change finally put me over the edge.
TL;dr: Make skyriding and normal mount specific, or glyph it, I don’t care, just change it from either or PLUS a 5 second cast for every swap.

Each time someone uses “disrespect player time” it makes me wonder if they understand the concept of time.
Can go an entire expansion swapping between the two flight modes and you’d still have saved time by the speed boost normal mounts recieved. For every 15 seconds you spend flying on steady flight, you’ve already recuperated the time spent swapping once compared to the way things were in DF, with the benefit people aren’t forced to use a dragon mount to go fast.
Is it possibly annoying to swap? Sure, though I don’t know many situations that would require swapping flight modes twice every 30 seconds.

Except people don’t want to pick steady flight to cover distance.
We want to switch for specific flights that need precision instead of speed, typically VERY short distances.

So if the swap is annoying, what is the upside of it that makes it good to have?
People like to say things aren’t a big deal or not that bad, but how is it good?

Which is why I said 15 seconds, my last comparison between the flight speeds, a 24-second flight with Dragon riding crossed about a quarter of a Zone well it took minutes for steady flight. 10 to 15 seconds is a rough estimate of traveling between two nodes with steady flight, or going from a grounded position to fly around to find the precise location they were looking to land at.
I also would like to auto swap back to regular flying after dragon races, instead of change my character to dragonflying after each race (if the character starts the race in regular flying mode).

It is fair for someone to not like something and I’m not saying people should feel obligated to like it if they don’t. They can say that they don’t like pushing the button to switch modes, but saying it is disrespecting player time is silly.
Yo.
SPEED IS IRRELEVANT.
If I want to go fast I’ll dragonride.
If I want to fly somewhere with a lot of obstacles and need to land in a specific place, that’s the reason to switch modes. And it takes 10 seconds because immediately after that I’m going back to dragonriding.

Can you imagine there are mounts in this game that still can’t fly at all? Those poor, poor beasts.

I would prefer mount specific too. Swapping between flying styles is annoying. What’s the big deal to implement this change from a usage perspective? Everyone would be happy.

There are places with obstacles that you can’t just go over on a flying mount? That one is news to me.
You may not realize it, but you’d still likely be spending 30+ seconds flying before you’d swap, making it a net change of zero.

Says who? I use steady flight all the time right now and I hate Dragon Flying…well my body hates its …like my hands and wrists and my eyes and stomach…and my left arm has bad nerve damage from Two Strokes I have had along with a Heart Attack too…

Landing on mining nodes that tend to be on cliffs or in trees. Flying through places with low clearance and stalactites in the way.
You know we’re going into an underground expansion right?
K, you can just switch and never change back. That isn’t what the switching complaint is about.
Yes, and I have been on the beta. At no point was it an obstacle course to get through on Dragon riding, it wasn’t like the tunnel between the dragon Isles and the Zaralek caverns. Most of the space is pretty empty for flying and some zones are still very much open Skies forever. It isn’t super claustrophobic even when you end up Underground so is someone who does Gathering professions on Dragon riding mounts, your math is still off.

You have never done any gathering I see.
And what is a problem with being able to switch without the 5s cast time?
Go ahead and claim that it’s to force players to learn dragonriding, like every other dope completely ignoring the fact that static flight still exists and always will.
Come up with a reason it’s a bad idea.

You’re literally talking to someone who maxed mining before season 2, so I’m just going to throw out your assumption that I didn’t do something. I’m not saying the cast time is amazing, I’m saying you were making a mountain out of a molehill.
The upside is that its a disincentive for people constantly swapping back and forth to avoid stuff, which blizz doesn’t want us to do.
No I can’t switch now see Steady Flight is locked behind Pathfinder when TWW goes live and until I get that done I am stuck either fighting my body in pain to use Dragon flying or hoofing it on the ground…

That’s not a reason. That’s a ‘because I said so’ excuse. WHY is it bad? Too much of an unfair advantage to think ahead a few seconds and decide what flight mode is best for where you’re about to go?
Both are flying, both allow us to avoid things and skip over the world. Each has different advantages, but both skip over the world. It doesn’t matter.
