Flying Didnt Ruin WoW

The massive drop in players within classic is your proof Blizz.

Please do not listen to these fringe players when designing future patches/releases.

Clearly the immersion of walking or riding a slow horse is not the defining characteristic of what a true “MMO” is.

Please dont ever make another zone without flying.

Dont blame the players. BLIZZARD is the one who wants flight gone.
Some players. a minority, just agree with that sentiment.

Yeah, it seems like Blizzard has an unhealthy hatred of flight. And rather than embracing it and trying to build the world with it in mind (including the dangers they want), they’d rather focus on making it a time gated thing to drag out.

It almost feels like spite towards the players when they put it in the X.2 patch and then push the X.2 patch a year after launch date. I’m really not at all fond with their attitude regarding flight.

I think the drop in numbers in Classic actually has more of something to do with there is very little to actually do at End-Game apart from Raiding.

I don’t know, I could be wrong here.

Flying is something to do when there’s nothing at end-game. You can fly and farm the world. Farming herbs and ores on ground mount is depressing.

There is no “almost” about it. Pathfinder Pt II is nothing but spite. I can almost see how Pt I is acceptable (begrudgingly) but really should consist of nothing but completing the main zone stories and the explorer 'chieve. Part II should only be added if new zones are added.
I for one will not be prepurchasing 9.0 and will unsub until 6 weeks before flight is fully available. I gave blizz the benefit of the doubt 3 times and wasted 27 months of game time grounded, no more.

Shh. that doesn’t feed into our agenda.

What massive drop would that be?

couldn’t this be use as “proof” of anything?
“nobody wants the old talent tree”

I’d love to see them incorporate flying like they did in Wrath, where it was required for some content in one or two zones and only achievable at a certain level for a precious cost, but then aggressively limit its use everywhere else with mechanics like those in Mechagon, but even more difficult to avoid, nigh impossible. Make flying a major challenge. You want to fly? Be prepared to die… a lot.

My stance on flying, as it always has been, is that it should either be available at level cap for gold or not be in the game at all.

I can agree. Flight should be included on the main island with Pathfinder Part I and it should be released in Patch X.1. If they wanted to add flight to the patch zones, Part 2 can be worked on for flight there. There is no reason for Part 2 to be the requirement to allow flight in the main area.

That said, I do like Pathfinder conceptually because it’s nice unlocking it account wide. But the way it’s done is so poorly thought out and handled that it does come off as spiteful to the players, which you never want to seem spiteful to your customers. I’m dealing with that right now at work, our supplier is being unnecessarily frustrating to work with. But we’ll likely just have to take our business elsewhere.

Wasn’t the major gripe with flying about how it killed world pvp? just make flight disabled if you have warmode turned on…I’d be curious of the results

This is honestly the most awesome, mind boggling fantastic game Ive ever played in my life and to have the game maker trying to literally destroy one of the BEST features in the game…or even making to so annoying that I dont want to participate in getting it now…just blows my mind.

They have so much competition out there with other games like FF14 having flight and ESO having a VAST portal system…and they decide to go the other route and want to REMOVE flight and literally removed meaningless portals to nowhere important ?
I have to assume at some point that the captain of the ship has stopped taking his meds and has gone completely insane at a point.
When I see rats scurrying about the decks I figure the ship is going down soon and I might want to find a life raft asap.
Precisely the reason I started my ESO account months ago. Just in case they sink this boat.

That’s a really good idea.

Honestly in my opinion, I think they’re trying to push flight out because it speeds content up for us. We can finish the things we need to get done so much faster with flying, and they’re trying to force us to slow down.

Instead, just give us more things to do in-game that make me want to stick around. Don’t make me consume content at the rate you want me to.

I can’t disagree.

I love World of Warcraft. I’ve been playing for 13 years, which makes about half my life devoted to enjoying this game. This character was my original character and has been race changed only once. I’ve loved this game for so long that it hurts to see it in its current state.

Flight is one of my favorite “superpowers” for any character. The games that allow me flight, to endlessly explore, are my favorite. It makes me happy to soar in the clouds, even in a game that isn’t real. Being grounded is the exact opposite of fun for me, but I am happy to deal with it for a short period of time. My patience begins to dry up the closer we get to a year mark without flight.

Instead of fighting flight, they should embrace it. Do what they did in BC, in Wrath, in Cata. Build the world with flight in mind. Get creative with the third dimension. And add dangers if they really need to make the world feel dangerous.

That would involve creativity though.

The game has been through various forms of recycling. The biggest indication of recycled content is going back to classic like it would save the game lol.

Blizzard has become the Metallica of the video game world. Constantly chasing old ideas from the glory days to spin off as “new” and completely miss the mark.

no flying equals no money from me again and classic had flat maps but the walking sucks without player run skills.

When they put flying mounts in World of Warcraft during Burning Crusade that was something that (not exclusively a draw) helped set World of Warcraft apart from the other MMOs.

I’m not sure how much the development team has changed between now and then, but I think the development team has changed drastically and I don’t think any of the original team members are still onboard. That may have something to do with the abrupt change in attitude.
