Flying Choice

If you had a choice between dragon flying or standard flying that flies at dragon flight speed (not active surging), what would you choose to get around?

EDIT:
I think a lot of people here interpreted this question as an argument, but it isn’t an argument for or against either one … just curious which one you all think is more fun if speed was equivalent.

Dragon flying.

Normal flying is far too one dimensional.

I guess I’d choose normal flying if I was camping the Time-Lost Proto Drake while watching Judge Judy and eating Doritos.

if players want standard flying that flies at dragon flight speed then they should do dragonriding then. not trying to be mean or anything but if you want an afk flying and super speed then i am sorry but no.
keep regular flying at the speed its been and keep the riding the way it is

I see we’re already starting with a soft approach to the “make static flight as fast as dynamic” threads.

Get used to this, GD. It’ll be the hot button troll topic for months to come once Pathfinder drops.

For the record, I reject the question. If you want the breakneck speeds you have to actually participate in gameplay to get it. Static flight is not gameplay, it’s pointing and clicking on the horizon while you get a beer.

or once static players keep having nodes to de-spawn from the timer hitting zero

Standard flying. Not at high speeds. Just…normal flying.

I think you’re right, but DR deserves to be much faster because it involves a lot more input from the player, the big question is just how much faster should it be? Does it need to be twice as fast… three times as fast?

I’m not really sure, but i can see the logic in the arguments that people will make to give OG flying a bit of a boost, not to get it anywhere near DR of course, just a bit so that it doesn’t feel like you’re on a bicycle riding down the highway with cars zooming past you a 100 miles per hour lol

If I want to get somewhere fast, dragon riding.

If I’m starting stopping starting stopping for like… herbing or mining… regular flying.

I think it’s fine where it’s at, personally.

I don’t feel like that’s necessary. The people zooming by are encouragement to try and get better at DR lol. The speed of both modes are fine as is, they just need to both be available anywhere flying is possible.

My problem with dragon flying (aka flappy lizard game) is the speed. So no, I do not want regular flying to have the same speed. I am fine with my old fogey flight.

You know, Fuzzbutt…I don’t think I’ve ever seen you have a bad take. You’re 100% right.

Yeah, honestly that was going to be my other point.

If you jack up the speed of static flight it’ll just get harder to control, which is the whole draw of still using it.

Awe ty!

Oh I’ve had a few LOL XD

I made a thread one time asking for a mode for M+ that was just all affixes…

Yeah that halfway went over well and not well lol (I still want an all affix mode tho)

I mean…if people wanna torture themselves, they should be allowed to. At the very least, it’d be fun to WATCH.

Definitely DR, the only time it isn’t fun is when you’re in a rare situation where you’re starved of vigor, having to land and just sit there staring at the wall isn’t much fun lol

That’s the good thing about adding normal flight though, we can use it in the rare situations where we need to be stop-starting over and over in a small area. An example of this for me was catching battle pets in the cavern, DR was just too fast and the pets wouldn’t even load on my map before i’d flown way beyond their location, then i’d have to keep doubling back, it left me resource starved and frustrated.

When people get pathfinder and unlock old flying in DF. We will see all types of post about how people are mad about not being able to get to rares in time to tag them on their old mounts at the speed they fly. Also we hear complaints about nodes that despawn before they can get to them as well.

Regular flight.

Dragonriding is too fast. I can’t enjoy the scenery when I’m zooming past everything. The slow down ability, while an improvement over zooming by at ludicrous speed, isn’t good enough. It’s also annoying to go high. I know how to do it, I just don’t enjoy it at all.

Regular flight goes at the right speed (420-450% flight speed overall depending on class buffs and/or zone buffs). I have finer control over the movement of my mount, which is important to me.

One thing that made dragonriding feel much worse to me was trying to find an entrance to go below a castle for a quest in the first questing zone in DF. I used dragonriding at first, but I zoomed past the area multiple times because dragonriding was too fast and there was no hover ability. When I was on the ground, mobs kept respawning and attacking me because I did not have shadowmeld on my evoker. It took me out of the game because I had to find a spot to perch to look up the quest on wowhead. If I had regular flight, then I’d be observing every nook and cranny around the castle and immersing myself in the questing experience. I’d hover or go slowly and eventually find the entrance where I needed to go.

Regular flight would’ve made that quest so much more immersive. Not to mention the short hops I tend to do for things like going from a pet battle to a mining mode and back to another pet battle where it’s easy to overshoot my destination due to dragonriding going too fast.

I don’t think this is a meaningful choice, because one of the options is never going to happen.

But I’d take dragonriding that went at current “normal” flying speeds over the old way of flying. Dragonriding is flying for me now.

Dragon riding is the new flying. Old flying is like that dude trying to race F1 using a bike.

Dragon riding has drastically increased my immersion as I’m traveling vs the normal flying or flight path. It keeps me completely engaged. Normal flight, I’d often click auto move forward while on long flights and look at my phone.
