Flying at the start of an xpac opinion

This might be a hot take, but I personally think having flying accessible right from the start of the xpac massively takes away from the exploration and leveling experience. Now, before the turbo nerds go into a energy drink induced frenzy, I am not advocating for time/rep gating flying and think the game being designed with flying in mind is good in general, but it probably should be a top level feature. It just feels like Blizz are trying to kill the RPG in MMORPG, which is really sad. The tortoise really does beat the hare is some aspects and people need to remember that.

I found flying greatly improves both questing and exploration. You can get to and from. Fly up annoying terrain. Explore unreachable spots.

Coming from someone who has experienced some of the worst ground terrain… flying is amazing and even better when its not timegated a year into the xpac.

Don’t forget the views.

I was blown away the first time I flew into Hallowfall.

Dragonflight and TWW have proven that you can indeed design zones with flight in mind

This is worded exactly the same as someone that posted last week. It is this simple. Don’t wanna fly? Then don’t.

Skyriding was the best answer to the flying debate. It has the speed and convenience, but it’s also very interactive (moreso than ground travel).

There’s no further debate to be had on this topic. It’s just a great form of travel from any perspective.

If the thing I’m going towards is close by, I use my frostwolf.

If it’s far away, I use a flying mount.

Options. Always a good thing.

How? What?

It’s an RPG world that has flying mounts. Not being able to fly because arbitrary reasons is anti-RPG.

I will never, ever understand these arguments.

Why would they comment on a thread that has over 600 replies and miss out on the attention they could get by restarting the same exact post but this time flagging it as a “hot take!”.

OP:

No. We have been there done that, when the “best” mode of transport was locked behind “Pathfinder” it was a huge slap in the face. “I know y’all had flying previously, but you dont get it again till the end of this expac”. Worst idea ever restricting the “best” mode.

Thankfully, the art team and dev teams communicate, you know:
Devs:“hey art nerds, we are making flying/dragonriding available from launch”
Art: “ok cool beans we will design awesome views and stuff you can see from the air”.

If you felt your game was impacted because of it, change it yourself. Mount the ground mount and take your time, you had plenty of it with the timegate. Hell on my druid i spent 75-79 on standard flight collecting herbs and mining, still got it in a day.

Your inability to control yourself shouldn’t impact others. If you disagree, look at the other version of this exact topic, and see how ratiod that OP got.

I disagree. Having flying accessible off the bat allows them to design really amazing zones that would be impracticle if it was also designed for ground mounts.

Hallowfall would just not work with just ground mounts, and it may be the best zone they ever created. Same for azj-kahet.

Nooo it was great unlocking flying in Tanaan Jungle and not being able to see anything.

100% agree Hollowfall would be so much worse if you couldn’t experience it from the air.

What you said…

What I saw…

“I whine about muh ‘immersion’, but I have no self control to just play MY game MY way, so Imma ALSO whine to have the game ruined for EVERYONE ELSE because Im a self serving tool”

no…whats sad is these pathetic “i cant control myself” threads

What sad is actually thinking our FLYING mounts go stupid every time a new continent comes out

tell you what…im just gonna start putting the self serving anti flight trolls on ignore from now on to save myself some annoyance.

having flight from the start means ion DESIGNS THE CONTENT WITH FLIGHT IN MIND…instead of it being a dirty afterthought.

Personally the zones have been MUCH better, FAR more personality…since Ion started designing the game FOR flight instead of hating on it.

Guys I have a solution to this it’s gonna blow your minds: Don’t fly if you don’t want to.

jesus christ man…you’d THINK it’d be just that damned easy with these jokers…but they make every excuse in the handbook to NOT just play their game the way they CLAIM they want to play it.

“I dont like speeding”
yeah?
THEN TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE FLIPPIN GAS PEDAL!!

It ruins the entire experience. They should do it the way FF does it with aether currents. You get flying after each zone AND you are expliring to get the currents.

Then go play FF.
See how easy that was?

The thing is - the zones are designed with that initial flying in mind.

I did a lot of ground-travel, once I reached a destination.
I also saw people that would mount up and fly to get 40 yards away.

Everyone can play the game how they like.

I’ll go into any frenzy I want thanks.

I strongly disagree. Going from blazing speed from DF to ground mounts into TWW would have been foolish.

It’s like going from a ferrari to a ride on tortoise.

Feel free to walk around at a snail pace though. No one is stopping you.

Hard pass, i enjoy FF but unlocking flying as you are leaving the zone sucks IMO, its not much better than unlocking flying through pathfinder, and again, that was hated.

Hush up whiner. You were crying every day over having to play the game at all for flying.
