I woke up this morning and turned WoW on and noticed flickering again. No change was made after 9.1.5 update. I was running a few versions back of driver and Gsync was on.
I re-installed the driver express way, FPS was down to 40s. ( 3080 strix here) So i re-installed them using DDU and the fps was still the same. I turned off G-sync and now my fps is back. Also the flickering still happens extremely bad with g-sync on. If i turn it off I experience everything normal.
Not sure what else I can do. Never had a problem with this after the 471 update that fixed the flickering. It seems its back, at least for me.
Edit I am now getting flickering without g-sync enabled as well. Just sitting in game it flickers
I found a hotfix 496.61 driver for stuttering/flickering issues and it took care of the in game without gsync on but gsync still causes it when i enable it.
Check to make sure WoW isn’t running on an iGPU, if your cpu has one built in. It’s under he advanced settings in the game options or you can manually set it in the Nvidia control panel.
If you’re on Windows 10 or 11, make sure HDR mode is turned off in your display properties. On Windows 11, with the most recent Nvidia drivers, I’ve noticed some weird dimming stuff happening in chrome, but not in games(I have gsync on). The screen gets dark and high contrast for a second and then goes back to normal. It acts like the color space information is getting crushed or something like it’s switching from SDR to HDR, even when HDR is turned off. I’ve tried turning hardware acceleration on and off with chrome, but it doesn’t resolve the issue. Your problem might be similar to it.
I’m trying something new where I manually set the color settings in the NVCP to use 32bit, 8bpc, rgb, full and so far, I haven’t seen that dimming stuff in chrome. Just throwing ideas and options out there for you to look into.
Everything is all set correctly on my side, No HDR. running off my 3080 strix. Windows 10 here latest build fully updated. I had to revert back to the 472 driver. the latest and the hotfix showed massive flickering. I can’t use g-sync or it happens. Without Gsync i was seeing fps lowered down to 40-50.
same here, when I turn Gsync off it’s fine, but blurry and not really crisp looking, but when I have gsyn on, things look nice when standing still, but blur/flickering occurs when moving. Any fix?
I reverted back to 471 drivers and the whole screen flicker was still present, i’m lost at what to do next. it’s the same as this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdKR8YyauBg
That’s gsync flicker. Disable it in your Nvidia control panel, reboot and see if the problem persists. Chances are, you have a monitor that isn’t gsync certified and that’s freesync instead. It’s likely a compatibility issue.
The normal flicker people had issues with was for individual models within the game, like a flickering tree or rock.
G-sync disabled, I still get flickering with the latest driver. My Monitor is G-sync certified. Not a free-sync g-sync compatible label. Have tried multiple times, DDU safe mode refresh of the driver. Only wow has the issue.
I’m on a laptop so my laptop screen is plugged directly into the onboard intel UHD with my rtx 2060 sitting as an additional processing unit.
My nvidia control panel therefore only has 3D settings and physx etc available. I have no settings for gsync, can’t turn it off or on.
I’m still getting these whole screen flickers and its only in tbc classic. I’m on the latest hotfix driver 496.61
I’ve reported it to nvidia, but people there are saying its a retail and tbc classic client issue and blizzard need to fix it.
If the whole entire screen is flashing black, including the UI elements, that’s more in the realm of a gsync or refresh rate issue.
Start+R>type winver>press enter>what version and build are you on?
What monitor and GPU do you have?
What DirectX version are you running WoW with? 11 or 12?
Have you made any changes to the WoW.exe options like the placebo “disable fullscreen optimizations?”
Have you made any changes to your registry settings?
There’s a lot of potential variables in play. The newer Nvidia drivers basically assume everyone is on the latest builds of Windows, which they should be.
3080 Strix oc on a Acer Predator XB271HU DX 12
No changes to wow.exe or registry.
The worst time it flickers is loading it. thing flickers insane then continues randomly in game. No other game in testing has the issue.
Do you have multiple monitors running? I was just updating my drivers to the latest and saw this in the post about it: “In multi-monitor configurations, screen may display random black screen flicker [3404999]”
Try hitting Start+P and click PC screen only so that your PC only runs on one screen and see if the problem still persists.
Only other thing I can think of is that you might have some overlay software that gets confused when you trigger loading screens in WoW (the load screens do weird stuff to the window resolution sometimes). Maybe disable any overlays like steam, discord, afterburner’s RTSS, etc.
Try what I said about the “In multi-monitor configurations, screen may display random black screen flicker [3404999]” issue in my post above and see if that works or not.
