Flexible Raid Lock system: Allowing players to do both 10 and 25-player raids in the same week

Dear Blizzard,

Please provide some clarity on what exactly this means! Am I still going to be able to raid 10m and 25m on the same toon each week? Or to do a 10m from start to finish and a 25m from start to finish am I going to have to bring separate toons to each?

I was really hoping you would keep the lockout split like they are in WOTLK so I could keep bringing my mage to the 10m I go to as well as keep taking my mage to the 25m I RL each week.

I think saying “Allowing players to do both 10 and 25-player raids in the same week” is a little too ambiguous. Right now in WOTLK we can take the same toon to 10m and 25m but complete 12/12 bosses in both, and that fits into what was said. But on the other hand splitting the lockouts and making it so someone can do 2/12 in 10m and then finish the remaining 10 bosses in 25m also fits into what was said.

Because Cata originally had 10 and 25 share a lockout, I would imagine your second interpretation for “flexible” is correct.

In a raid with 12 bosses, one character can kill up to 12 bosses a week across 10 and 25m. So 2/12 in 10man and the remaining 10 in 25 man.

The other thing different with cata raids was that you could join another raid ID provided you havent killed any bosses still alive. So if you killed the first four bosses in one raid ID, you could join another group who have killed the first four bosses or more but not a fresh raid.

Another example would be you killed bosses 1, 2, and 3 in a 10 man raid on tuesday and then join completely new people on thursday to kill bosses 6, 7, and 8 in 25 man, and end the week on sunday to kill bosses 11 and 12 in 10 man.

I agree, that some more clarification would be helpful

I just don’t see the benefit of doing this. Why would anyone want to come to a 25m if they can just get the same loot from 10m?

From my memory and references I found, assuming loot stays the same, it was 2 drops in 10m (.2/person), and 6 drops in 25m (.24/person). So if you want fast loot, you go 25. If you want less stress trying to manage 24 others and don’t mind waiting a bit longer for loot, you go 10.

(I think it reversed a bit when the tiers became old as they added an extra token to some, so it ended up be 3 and 7 drops… but most people at that time no longer needed the token anyway.)

the only time it is not flexible was in heroic where it is locked to whichever size you started it in.

Here’s the original novel explaining the stupid system this Classic team decided to go with instead of modern Flex raiding:

If I want the Legendary Staff from the Firelands would it be better to go to 25m or 10m, or does it matter?

More items for the quest drop on 25, so if you are the one to get them, that would be the faster route. Of course, there may be several more casters competing with you compared to a 10m, so it really depends on your situation.

Beat me to it. Given the timeline, I hope split IDs become a thing at least for Firelands and Dragon soul, it would be a shame to move on to Dragon soul and not have players enjoy the Legendary staff within the respective Firelands patch.

3 Months for firelands is what I saw :frowning:

Do you have an actual Blizzard link to that? I’ve seen several people quote that length, but all I have been able to locate is “faster content cadence” in one image.

Hmmm, wonder why i cant share direct twitter links xD

Why would they force you to one boss per toon per week? What’s the point?

Oh, so that horrible website I stopped using once a certain person bought it. Good to know. Thanks.

The worst part about twitter, isn’t even twitter, its now “journalists” will find a tweet with less than 100 views/likes/engagement and use that as a source for an article like “Some people on the other side of you believe something that sounds outrageous!! Click to drive metrics and ad revenue and we will find more fringe people to share their thoughts with you”

If they want people to play more, letting them do a 10m and 25m on the same week would be great wouldn’t it? If I could only do a 10m or 25m in wrath this week I’m 100% only logging on for the 25m.

For those that care, the original Blizzard post has been updated:

Boss Based Raid Lock system: Allowing players to do either the 10 or 25-player raid version of each boss in the same week. Lockouts are based on individual boss.

10m and 25m in Cata gives the same reward and are arguably supposed to be at the same difficulty, this is why you can’t do both for loot.

I would start leveling alts if your goal is to do multiple raids.

Good question. To some point 25m kept being the relevant difficulty for anyone that cared about the challenge, ranking and loot because even if loot is equal dropping more loot means more chance at specific pieces. 10m being equal to 25m only lasted for 2 expansions so this is probably also something that wasn’t pleasing everyone. I think they understood with mythic raiding that they couldn’t tune the highest difficulty for different sizes as 10m vs 25m tuning was wild.

More loot drops in 25, and comps for 25 are more flexible than 10.

A 10 man comp that is most effective for heroic progression is basically 1 set group, and whatever is effective is what people are going to copy so if you aren’t a class found in this 1 comp - you’re not going.
